A bit of a wet blanket when you think of other Who villains, but she was the first female one the show ever had. How do you think she went down?

I think she was as villainous as a female was ever going to get on the show at the time, which is pretty limited, but still a good character in her own right. Bad guys were mostly male back then and even still are now, which was why having Kovarian around last year made a nice change. Now it's time to get The Rani back.

No, there weren't that many female villains in the 60s and 70s, though they gradually increased. There were female creatures, such as the Animus in The Web Planet and the Metabelis spiders. There were the Drahvins too. A few more in the 70s, such as Miss Winters in Robot and Xanxia in The Pirate Planet. A lot more in the 80s - the Rani and Morgaine were definitely the best.

She was a decent enough character and it was nice to see them try out a female baddie, but I agree that in comparison she wasn't given a whole lot to do and wasn't particularly intimidating.
