With this story came Davros, arguably the best villain Doctor Who has ever produced. I think so, anyway. I love all the extra mythology that his introduction brought to the show and the way it added so many extra dimensions to the Daleks.

What are your thoughts?

Yes, even though it changed the Dalek backstory a bit, it was well worth it for such a great character.  One of the things I love is the way there are so many subtle things where you can see how Davros made the Daleks very much in his own image - especially the obvious design flaws, such as the limited mobility and difficulty in handling things.  My only criticism is that some of the later stories (notably Revelation) become Davros stories, with the Daleks pushed into the background.  But that certainly wasn't a problem here.

Of course, it's arguable that Davros may have already appeared, in Evil of the Daleks.

I love Davros, but for me he has never been as good as he was in this. I'd love to see him come back in a story that's equally as good but that hasn't happened yet.

I agree with the above. This has so far been his best outing. After this, for me at least, they never seemed to get the character quite right again. I would love to see him return in a great story, but I don't want him to just be wheeled out for the sake of it.

To see Davros in an origin story after already seeing him in later episodes was interesting. It's always nice to get that backstory for characters. I like the character and I think he's a good addition to the Dalek story.

I like Davros. He's a good character and I think he came at just the right time for the Daleks on the show to keep them from going stale. I also love the way he looks here. Much better than his later outings in the classic series. Perhaps even better than in NuWho.

I think part of it is that here he's a person, who has to be introduced and got to be known, rather than a recurring villain being wheeled on.  OK, most of his subsequent appearances have been a great deal better than that makes it sound, but he's never been characterised quite as well as here.

I think Nyki is right. There was a lot more purpose to his appearance here than there has been in his other appearances. Bringing something new in is always interesting. Putting it back on screen just because of it's popularity, especially for the sake of it rather than because there is a strong story, weakens the impact. Just look whats happened to the Daleks and Cybermen.

Michael Wisher gives a spine-chilling, simply AMAZING performance. It would only be until The Stolen Earth/Journey's End that we got a Davros that I considered adequate. He is just behind Count Scarlioni/Scaroth and (maybe) Tobias Vaughn as the greatest Doctor Who villain.
