I have decided to pick the top 10 NuWho stories which I think are underrated. Like the others this list is my own and so might not follow what you think are the most underrated. I'll post them monthly from 10 to 1, until November... hopefully.

Feel free to comment between entries. Tell us your thoughts on the choices or even what you would have put in the story's place (or even if they deserved a place). If you want to, you can build your own Top Ten NuWho underrated stories thread to show how you would list them yourself.

My list will cover only the new series of the show.

The Next Doctor

The Tenth Doctor
25th December 2008

The Next Doctor is one episode that I know many had mixed views on. I personally love this episode and admittedly it isn't high up on my list of episodes I would watch over and over but I will happily watch it through without getting bored.

This story is a definite tear jerker and you can't help but feel sorry for Jackson when you find out the truth! But also it has so many funny moments in there too. I always find myself laughing at "the TARDIS"!

We are introduced to two fascinating characters Jackson and Rosita, who, I think we should have seen more of in the episodes following this!

There it is Smiley My pick for number 10 of the underrated NuWho episodes. Smiley

You know what, I few months ago I would have thought it absurd to include this. I would have said it was just plain bad rather than underrated, but since doing a rewatch a while back where I actually quite enjoyed it, my opinion has changed and I definitely think it deserves a bit more credit than it gets. It still isn't close to being a favourite but it's not as bad as some of the things I have called it in the past Tongue

Definitely an underrated story. It isn't one of the strongest we have seen since the show returned but it's not one of the weakest either. I think if it had run as a standard episode instead of as a 'special' it would have been recieved better.

I never thought it was particularly bad, though a little underwhelming.  Certainly not painful to rewatch.

Never been a favourite of mine, personally. I think it's not a bad story, just not a great one either.

This is one of those stories that I've just never been able to take to. It's the ending more than anything else. It's just so stupid. I'm not sure if it's underrated or just plain bad.

There are so many underrated stories in Doctor Who that I could have a field day trying to make a top ten. I think this is one of them. It's actually very good, if not a little absurd. I'm not sure if it would make my list overall but in a NuWho thread I think it would definitely be on there.

My opinion of this story changes every time I watch it. Sometimes I love it and can overlook the bad or silly bits, but then other times I watch it and it feels like utter nonsense. I don't think I'll ever make my mind up with it.

I'm the same. I find it really quite boring and the giant cyberman at the end is just too silly for me.

I think this story is often judged too harshly. There are some great comic moments and Jackson is played really well. The ending makes so little sense though that it sort of changes the dynamic of the entire episode. Had that been better I think the whole story would have been given a boost.

I've never been keen on this story at all. I don't like Jackson, I think the plot is paper thin and the ending is really stupid.

I've never taken to this story. It's not awful, it's just a bit daft. I think expectation at Christmas are higher and this one just didn't deliver for me.

My opinion on this story is pretty split. There are some excellent things going on and the Cybermen are used really well. I even like what happens to Miss Hartigan, I just don't like the giant Cyber thing at the end. I think it really weakens the story.

New Earth

The Tenth Doctor
15th April 2006

Perhaps I'm a little bias with this episode as this is the first ever Doctor Who episode I watched. I know that quite a few people don't like it, yet I can't watch it without finding myself still giggling. There are so many funny aspects to this story and the way they made Cassandra switch between characters makes me laugh every time. I think it is a lovely way to give us a thought in to how we could have the ability to recolonise in the future and introduces us to New Earth which i would like to see more of in future episodes.

There it is Smiley My pick for number 9  Smiley

Some of the funny bits are pretty good, but the overall story I find to be a bit weak. Not bad, just not great.

I like the episode, and perhaps I'm biased because I love Zoe Wanamaker, but the ending I always find really touching!

The Beast Below

The Eleventh Doctor
10th April 2010

So perhaps this story is a little underrated, and maybe it wasn't the best episode to have as number 2 of series 5, but I do quite like this story. The ending is a little weird, but the concept of the UK becoming a space ship in the future with counties represented by buildings is just brilliant! It's quite a nice light hearted episode that always makes me smile Smiley

Night Terrors

The Eleventh Doctor
3rd September 2011

I know that many people really dislike this episode yet I really enjoy it. Okay it took me a couple of attempts to really enjoy it, but I think it's brilliant! Maybe it's because I'm a little younger and it appeals to me a little more, but I don't understand why it's so hated.

What did you think?

I do quite enjoy The Beast Below (although it's only really on rewatch that I did) but I have to confess I really dislike Night Terrors. I just found it a bit silly and a bit boring.
