Doctor Who has the ability to make us gasp and laugh and frighten with every story, but with some the emotion just pours out and you can't help shedding a little tear. Not if you are me, anyway, so I am bringing you, over the next few months, the top ten tearjerkers.

These entries are my own and may differ from yours so if you want to do your own then use this section to get it started Smiley

Have A Good Life

From The Parting Of The Ways

There were a number of things that made this so sad the first time I watched it. Saying goodbye to an amazing Doctor so soon after his arrival was probably one of the biggest factors, even to someone who had been around for a few regenerations and was more than prepared for it. But it wasn't the regeneration that got me like I thought it would be. It was this scene before it in the TARDIS after he sends Rose away. The speech is brilliant and gives me goosebumps every time (seriously, I have them now from just rewatching on youtube) and Rose' desperation at never seeing him again. When he turns and looks staight at her, and ultimately right down the camera and at the viewer, and with Murray Golds brilliant score highlighting the scene on top of it, it gets me every single time.

I haven't seen this episode in ages, but I agree it's a definite tearjerker. I cry at everything though so my list would have to be about 300 items long Grin

In any other show this would have been the perfect way to end his run, but with the need for regeneration I think the impact of the goodbye here was lessened, because we go back and see more of him. It was sad, but I think it lost some sad points by being a bit of a fake ending.

Perhaps I am a little more harder to shake, but this one never really got to me in the way other scenes from other stories have. I think that it's great, though, that there has been a lot more emotion since the show returned and way more moments of heartbreak. I'm not too manly to admit that some bits have made me sob, but while this is a great scene it just didn't pull at my heartstrings the way others have.

I love this scene. When he turns to look at her it sends chills down my spine. I didn't want Eccleston to leave Sad

It's a great scene, but I'm with Ex on this one. It's just not as powerful for me on rewatch because I know what's happening. I think the bit a few minutes later when Rose is all bright eyed is far more tear-worthy. Not that I'd ever get teary eyed, of course Tongue

I think I just cried for about 15 minutes straight through all of it Grin

This was good because it didn't seem forced. RTD sometimes had a way of writing where the characters may as well have just turned to the camera and said 'this is sad, start crying' and it felt a bit hammered home, but this was a nice subtle scene and all the better for it.

The whole second half of that episode is just so sad. I was gutted when I found out he was leaving. I loved his Doctor and I wanted more from him. I think his speech directly before he regenerated is the saddest part though.

Nine is my favourite Doctor so seeing him leave was devestating for me, but this bit didn't get me weepy. Lots of things do, I'm not too manly to admit, but this didn't. No idea why.

I can do this for you. I can be a proper dad now

from Father's Day

The Doctor must have known that taking a 17 year old girl back in time to watch her father be hit and killed by a car would be a bad move. Also, probably a little insensitive. But he does it anyway. Like any normal girl missing her daddy, Rose can't help herself and stops those events from unfolding, bringing about a paradox that is about to end the world.

In order to undo the paradox, Pete realizes that the only thing that is going to make things better is his death. After some emotional words with his newly found, grown up daughter, he runs out into the street and is hit by a car, righting the universe again and ruining some poor innocent driver’s day. It's this, coupled with Rose' reaction and the scenes of her as a little girl being told the story of her father and the girl who sat with him as he died, that makes it a real tear-jerker.

I love this story and I think Pete 'manning up' and sacrificing himself really made the story great. I expected that they would try and find a way around it to keep him alive, but I am glad the writers followed through and had him still dead in the end.

Great, moving scene from a great episode. Not a tear-jerker for me because I am too tough, but still great Tongue

I cried. I admit it. The first time I watched this episode I couldn't help it. It doesn't get the same emotion these days but that initial watch really hit!
