It's been an awfully long while since we have had a new story entered into The Infinite Quest but we are back, and with a new year and new beginning, we start with an ending as the Fourth Doctor regenerates in Logopolis.

The Doctor goes to Logopolis to repair the TARDIS's chameleon circuit, not knowing that a shadowy watcher is spying on him.

His old enemy the Master has plans of his own for the planet of mathematicians, Logopolis, and a plan that could spell doom for the entire universe.

The Master's plan could rock Logopolis, the keystone of all life. Could this mean the unravelling of the causal nexus and the end of the universe itself?

The Doctor must pit his wits against the Master in a desperate battle to thwart his plans. But he is aware that this might be a fight which could easily spell the end of his life.

Logopolis was the seventh and final story of Season 18 of Doctor Who. It was Tom Baker's last story as the Fourth Doctor and introduced Peter Davison in the role, at the very end of the story.

Logopolis also marked the first appearance of Janet Fielding as new companion Tegan Jovanka. After being introduced in the previous serial, Nyssa, played by Sarah Sutton, began her travels with the Doctor here. This was also Anthony Ainley's first full story as the Master.

The next story will be posted on Sunday 13th January.

Ok, I'm going to start this weeks voting off with a 4. I like this story a lot. I like the way it ties in with the one that comes before on Traken, but as regeneration stories go we have seen it done better before and since. I always expect that bit more from a Doctors final outing so while it's a good enough standard story for me, I think it could have been a better finale, especially given the time and commitment TB gave to the role.

Episode 1 is far too long winded. It takes half an hour for Tegan to decide she needs help to change a tyre. It's sort of cool though because even though nothing is happening it's still engaging and the characters are at least being developed. You'd never get that in a story these days and in a way it's a shame. You have to dive in to the action immediately or the audience loses interest.

He is also vain, ego-centric and quite mad

I'm not going to lie, it is impossible for me to be objective about this episode. I remember it vividly as a child and it is one of my defining sci-fi stories. As TC points out, the first part is a bit flabby - it takes a while to get going. But the concept, a universe held together by mathematics and a dying time lord, was just magical. Put alongside that is the very 'Moriarty'-like conflict that the Doctor has with the Master (even resulting in a Reichenbach style fall). The whole package is just wonderful.

I've given it 5 just because it is so deeply engrained in my cultural DNA! I will never forget the feeling  when, in the spring of 1981, a 9 year old boy saw Tom Baker fall from the radio telescope and witnessed his first regeneration.

Touching upon what Tardis-Console has already said, I like this story a lot but as an exit for Tom Baker, a Doctor who was very popular and in the role for 7 years, I think there should have been more of a bang. There is nothing wrong with the story, it just doesn't do his tenure justice. For that reason I have only given it a four. I think he deserved something more of a spectacle.

This one gets off to a slow start but once the pace picks up it's actually a really good story. I think some of the stuff gets a bit long winded but not so much that you get bored. Well, not for me, anyway. I've rated it a 4.

I gave it a four.  I love it, and there's nothing in particular that makes me take off the point, just that there are quite a few stories I love more.  I don't really agree that TB didn't go out with a big enough bang (he died saving the universe, after all) but I felt the final confrontation with the Master could have been a bit more intense.  I know they wouldn't have wanted to get rid of Ainley (and I don't think they should) but the ideal would have been if they'd both gone down, like Holmes and Moriarty.

I've given it full marks. Can't really find a reason to mark it down. I liked the story, I enjoyed the characters (even Tegan and Adric), I thought the Master was cool and I liked the ending. It worked all round for me.

I'm going with a four, here. I enjoy it a lot, but the main reason I am marking it down is because in comparison with many other stories, both of the Fourth Doctor and other Doctors, there are others which I think deserve full marks that much more. There are no real complaints about the story other than pacing. I think it would have fit comfortably into a three parter without any of the important stuff being lost.

4/5 from me. My biggest complaint is that while there is a fair amount going on in the episodes, there really isn't enough for all of the companions to be getting on with. I think that this becomes even worse an issue later on but is still noticeable in this.

And another 4 comes from me. Great story, good cast, some lovely sets and a nice ending for the Doctor. Pacing was iffy to start but that got better as the story went along.

I was hovering over 4, but I really couldn't find a reason to knock a point off so I have given it full marks

3/5 from me. As a regen story I've always found it to be sort of weak. Overall it's not awful, but I think there are loads of stories, from the Fourth Doctor alone, which are much better.

4/5. Great story, great characters, but unforgivable pacing in the first half.
