I in no means intend for this thread to become a competition or slanging match about who is better at their job, because I think both have done amazing work on the show and have tackled it with very different approaches, but now that we have had a couple of years of both I was wondering whose style you prefer?

While I think that Steven Moffat is the better writer of the two, in terms of tone and overall story I think that RTD bags it for me. While his plots may have been a bit weaker, his characterisations seem stronger and I like the subtleties he used while seeding in overall arcs. Moffat is an amazing storyteller and come up with some wonderful plots for his stories but I wasn't keen on the direction his first two series took (though this latest one is shaping up brilliantly). Both have their strengths and weaknesses and I am enjoying the show as much as I ever have, but I think at times Moff has made it a bit too confusing and self involved and that's why I have chosen RTD.

I've gone with Moff. I think that RTD had awesome ideas and great overall arcs, but I just prefer Moffs episodes. They are both great though in their own ways.

Moff by a mile. I thought that the arcs and many of RTDs plotlines were illogical and aimed for the wrong kind of humour (e.g., the awful Big Brother/Weakest Link spoofs). RTDs strengths were in the characters and dialogues, rather than the actual stories. Moff has a far greater appreciation of what makes a good sci-fi story.

I think both are great writers but I prefered RTD's era (despite prefering Moff's Doctor) so I went with him.

This really is a tough one because they are both so different in their writing and approach to running the show. Totally different. I like them both, but for very different reasons. In the end I chose RTD, but I've no real reason for why other than the fact that he stands out to me more than Moff when I'm trying to decide. I think both are great though. Could I be any more on the fence?

For me it's Moff. I don't dislike RTD's stuff though.

I've gone with Moff. While I don't like how he has these 'blink and you'll miss it' plot arcs and I think some of his stories have very weak endings, the bulk of what he does excites me more than what a lot of RTD's stories did.

Both are great at what they do, but Moff does more that I like and so my vote went to him.
