Everyone else is joining in, so I will too Smiley

My list is going to be a bit different than what the title suggests. It would be far too easy to make a list of the baddies with Daleks and Angels and Autons and Cybers and whatever else in there, so my list is going to be filled with baddies/aliens/monsters who were only lucky enough to face the Doctor once on screen. This elminates the obvious choices and makes the list a bit more interesting, I think.

I will be covering all aspects of the show, from 1963-2013. All of the choices are my own so I apologise if your favourites don't make the list. Don't shout at me please Smiley

Feel free to comment or make your own same list

Tenth Place

The Vashta Nerada

Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead

Nobody wants to be eaten alive until there is nothing left of you but a skeleton, so the idea that a shadow could latch onto you after deciding to make you it's meal, and all you can do it wander around and wait for the inevitable is quite a chilling concept.

With the Vashta Nerada Steven Moffat manages to play on everyones fear of the dark and what might be lurking in it, only he spins it on it's head because it's actually the dark here that wants to eat your face. By making the enemy something slow so that death, rather than being immediate, becomes something that you have to wait for, it turns something that might otherwise have failed as a bad guy into something quite terrifying indeed. And it's that scare factor that wins the Vashta Nerada a place on my list!

This made me lol!

I think the Vashta Nerada work because of the space suits and so in another setting would actually be a bit pointless. What's creepy about them, for me, is that they are essentially walking skeletons but again it only works because of the suits. If they are just flesh eatings shadows it takes a bit of the fright away for me. Still good baddies though. I'm not sure I would have put them on my list, but mostly because I would have overlooked them and not because they are undeserving.

You've actually managed to make them seem way scarier and cooler than I remember them being. I might have to do a rewatch now!

A great start. Because there are so many now iconic baddies that have only had one outing I would have totally overlooked the Vashta Nerada, but now that it's pointed out it seems so obvious and I think I would definitely include them on my list.

I agree with this. I don't think that they are forgettable, as such, but with so many strong candidates it is easy to overlook. They are great though.

You've described them brilliantly, and I really like the story, but for me they just didn't work. They weren't as effective as they could have been and I would actually go as far as to say that giving them a 'body' actually made them less scary. The fear for me is in the unknown and when they could have been any shadow and in any room it's far more scary than a slow moving suit that you can run away and hide from.

The idea behind them was brilliant, but like Saber they weren't so much of a highlight for me. The story is great, but they would have been scarier without the skeleton suits. That first time the skull fell against the visor made me jump though, I remember that!

A great entry. I don't think I'd be able to make a list like this. I'd be there all day trying to narrow it down to just ten.

I love the Vashta Nerada and I think they worked just fine as they were. It's nice as well in some cases to have a one off baddie, especially if they are good. Overdoing them lessens the impact, but I doubt we will see these guys again.

Good choice. I always found the idea behind these to be quite creepy and they worked well within the story, but I am not certain I would want to see them again.

This is a great choice for the list. I think the Vashta Nerada worked wonderfully in this story and really upped the creepiness.
