Destiny of the Doctor is an eleven-volume audio collaboration between Big Finish Productions and AudioGO to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. One audio story is being released per month, with each story focusing on a different Doctor.

The first few releases contain only one or two narrators, similar to the Companion Chronicles series. Later adventures are likely to offer full-cast productions.

As they are released/announced I will update them in this thread and because I am buying them, I will review them too if time permits.

Hunters Of The Earth

Coming January 2013

Schoolgirl Susan Foreman just wants an easy life for herself and her grandfather, the mysterious Doctor.

She wants to be liked and accepted by Cedric and all the other pupils at Coal Hill School. But there’s trouble in the streets and bombsites around Totter’s Lane. The teenagers are becoming dangerous…. Their mission: to hunt down anyone different, or alien…. Susan’s quiet life is about to spiral out of control. Having inadvertently started drawing attention to herself she finds herself drawn into a desperate situation. Suddenly, the chase is on and she and her grandfather are now the hunted…

Also, if the later stories are full cast adventures, won't that be a first for the new era Doctors?

It will, yes. Though I am pretty certain that this will not be the case. For one, I don't imagine Eccleston doing it, which would sort of put a spanner in the works of a full cast audio, but also I don't think Big Finish are allowed. I'm pretty certain their contract means that they are not allowed to use or reference anything from the show from 2005 onwards. No characters, Doctors, villains etc. They can only use something from the 2005 series if it was first in the 1963 series, such as Cybermen or Daleks, and even then on the coverart and voiced descriptions they have to be classic design. I have no idea why this is though, but unless they have special permission I would assume that it is still in place and so the most we would get would be a story reading by one actor, like what is currently available for the new Doctors.

You are correct about the rights, Saber, though I think that they have probably got special permission to do this because any audios featuring 9, 10 & 11 aren't released via Big Finish (which is why they can't mention anything after TVM), so for them to be releasing this alongside AudioGo means the rules on what can and can't appear might just have gone out the window. If Big Finish are getting this chance, they'll go all out on an adventure script rather than a story reading, I'm sure of it. My advice would be to get these, especially the later Doctors. They will be extremely rare and could even end up being one of a kind.

I wanted to get this anyway, but that last comment from PP has made me certain that I will. Plus, how awesome will it be to get a full cast audio from the new Doctors? Cheesy

Well unless Big Finish have changed a lot since I've been away, I've not ever known them to do audiobooks. They did audios with only one or two people but that was usually things like the companion chronicles where the associated Doctor was dead. It could go either way, I suppose, but it would be nice to get full dramas.

I have a full outline for audio 2, Shadow of Death.

Following an emergency landing, the TARDIS arrives on a remote world orbiting a peculiar star – a pulsar which exerts an enormous gravitational force, strong enough to warp time.

On further exploration the Doctor and his friends, Jamie and Zoe, discover a human outpost on the planet’s surface, inhabited by scientists who are there to study an ancient city. The city is apparently abandoned, but the scientists are at a loss to explain what happened to its sophisticated alien architects. The Doctor discovers that something dark, silent and deadly is also present on the world – and it is slowly closing in on the human intruders…

Doctor Who: Shadow of Death (Destiny of the Doctor 2) is an original adventure by Simon Guerrier, the creator of the science fiction series Graceless, and is available as a CD or download. It’s performed by Frazer Hines who played Jamie in the original TV series and Evie Dawnay (Wire in the Blood). The series is produced for AudioGO by Big Finish Productions.

I heard the first one this weekend and it is absolutely brilliant. Really brilliant. I'd totally recommend it to anyone, whether you are a fan of audios or not.

I've not listened yet. I was considering holding out and listening to them in a long marathon, but the reviews have been so good and it's just there waiting to be played. I think I might have to do it tomorrow.

Destiny of the Doctor 4

Babblesphere

Celebrating 50 years of Doctor Who, a brand new adventure for the Fourth Doctor. The violent, volcanic world of Hephastos is home to a colony of composers, painters, authors and poets, all striving to create the greatest works of art the universe has ever seen.

But in pursuit of their goal, artistic collaboration has been taken a stage too far… When the Doctor and Romana arrive, they discover the colonists have neglected their well-being and their once beautiful habitat has now succumbed to decay. What’s more, they are enslaved to the Babble network which occupies their every waking moment.

Every thought, however trivial or insignificant, is shared with everyone else and privacy is now a crime. The colonists are being killed and the Doctor and Romana begin to suspect that a malevolent intelligence is at work…

Doctor Who: Babblesphere (Destiny of the Doctor 4) is an original adventure by Jonathan Morris, a prolific writer of Doctor Who fiction, and is available as a CD or download. It’s performed by Lalla Ward, who played Romana in the original TV series, and Roger Parrott. The series is produced for AudioGO by Big Finish Productions.

Destiny of the Doctor 5

Smoke and Mirrors

The Doctor answers a psionic distress call sent from England in the 1920s. There, in the environs of a fairground, he is reunited with an old friend: Harry Houdini. To Adric and Nyssa the name means very little, but to the Doctor’s companion Tegan he is a legend. Escape artist extraordinaire, Houdini’s reputation will last for decades. But how does Houdini know so much about Tegan herself? Is it really just guesswork, as he says? Is Houdini right to be concerned about the fairground’s fortune teller, who claims to have supernatural skills? Both he and the Doctor suspect an alien influence may be at work.

What neither the Doctor nor his friends realise is that, somewhere in the shadows, a sinister and all too familiar presence is lying in wait for them…

Doctor Who: Smoke and Mirrors (Destiny of the Doctor 5) is an original adventure by Steve Lyons, a prolific writer of Doctor Who fiction, and is available as a CD or download from 2nd May. It’s performed by Janet Fielding, who played Tegan in the original TV series, and Tim Beckmann. The series is produced for AudioGO by Big Finish Productions.

Destiny of the Doctor 6

Trouble In Paradise

Responding to a desperate summons from the Doctor’s future self, he and Peri find themselves on a sailing ship in 1492, where the crewmen are gripped by superstitious fear. They say the Devil walks among them, stalking and striking them down.

Even though they have landed in paradise, they fear that ‘El Diablo’ himself will drag them over the edge of the world and into the depths of hell. When the Doctor and Peri meet the captain of the ship, they both discover that heroes can sometimes behave un-heroically. Peri’s reaction leads her into deep water, and soon the Doctor fears not only for her life but also for the existence of the ship, the paradise island, and the Universe itself…

Celebrating 50 years of Doctor Who, a brand new adventure for the Sixth Doctor. Nicola Bryant – Peri in the BBC TV Doctor Who series – and Cameron Stewart perform this original story by Nev Fountain, with music and sound design.

Destiny of the Doctor 8

Enemy Aliens

1935: a message from a Time Lord in trouble sends the Eighth Doctor and Charlotte ‘Charley’ Pollard to the streets of London’s West End, in search of a mysterious alien adversary – unaware that something monstrous is already on their trail.

They soon discover that an insidious conspiracy is indeed at work, its tentacles extending the length of the British Isles. Proving its existence won’t be easy, however, after a confrontation in a music hall ends up with the Doctor under arrest and Charley on the run, suspected of murder. All their hopes rest in a musical clue and a man named Hilary – neither of which are much consolation, with the two time travellers the object of a nationwide manhunt.

And all the while, the enemy aliens are drawing closer and closer still…
