In another thread to celebrate the 50th anniversary we are going to look at Doctor Who through the alphabet, but this is one where everyone joins in.

Start with A and each new poster takes the next letter of the alphabet, putting their favourite thing beginning with that letter as their post. When we get to Z we can go back around again, but you can't cover the same topic twice.

You can just put the name of your entry in your post, but if you'd like, and because it's more fun, you can also include a picture and some information, which will be cool if you are choosing something obscure for your letter.

I think that about sums it up. I'll start Smiley

L is for...

Leela

Leela was a warrior of the savage Sevateem, a tribe of regressed humans. She joined the Fourth Doctor on his travels and with him fought for good causes. Although quite clever, she knew little of technology and was continually amazed by her surroundings and the tasks she faced. Leela never lost her primitive edge, and remained quick to take up arms throughout her time with the Doctor.

She left the Doctor after she chose to live on Gallifrey with Andred, a member of the Chancellery Guard with whom she had fallen in love. K9 decided to remain with her.

M is for...

The Master

A Time Lord, who knew the Doctor well when they were children - in fact, there are rumours that they may have been brothers.  At the age of eight, he was exposed to the Untempered Schism, which drove him mad, but he was a brilliant student at the Academy, and had almost irresistible hypnotic powers.  Like the Doctor, he fled from Gallifrey, but in order to gain power over the universe, rather than to see it.

During the 1970s, the Master made repeated attempts to destroy the Doctor and subjugate the Earth (and sometimes the Universe) but always failed.  Having used up all his regenerations, he attempted to restore himself and destroy Gallifrey in the process, but finally gained a new body by taking over a man called Tremas on the planet Traken.

Resuming his campaign to destroy the Doctor and conquer the universe, he was finally exterminated by the Daleks, but his essence survived and found a new host, but was pulled into the Eye of Harmony of the Doctor's TARDIS.

When the Time War broke out, the Time Lords resurrected the Master, recognising both his genius and aggression, but he fled the war and, using a chameleon ark, disguised himself as the human Yana, who worked for the good of everyone.  He recovered his own identity, but was shot and regenerated.

Returning to present-day Earth, he adopted the alias of Harold Saxon and became prime minister of the UK as part of his scheme to destroy Earth and conquer the universe.  When this was thwarted by the Doctor, he was shot by his human wife Lucy and refused to regenerate, but was later restored to life by his followers.  He temporarily turned the entire human race into copies of himself, but when the Time Lords threatened to put an end to time itself, he helped the Doctor to destroy the threat and was pulled back to the time-locked war.

It seems impossible that the Master will ever return from this... or is it?

P is for...

Peri

Perpugilliam "Peri" Brown (born 1966) was an American college student who accidentally joined the Fifth Doctor during his visit to Lanzarote. She then elected to remain with him for the rest of her vacation time. She remained with the Doctor after his regeneration into his sixth incarnation, but found it harder to get along with him because of his newfound arrogance. She was separated from him by the Time Lords so that they could cover up the Ravalox conspiracy. According to the Master, Peri ended up wed to King Yrcanos.

Q is for...

Quarks

A squat, non-humanoid type of robot, the Quarks were used by a race called the Dominators.  Their weaponry made them deadly, though the effect was spoilt a bit by their high-pitched, childish voices, but they appeared to have a serious design flaw that meant they were constantly running low on power.  In their only appearance so far (apart from a brief glimpse during the Doctor's trial) the Quarks assisted in the Dominators' attempt to destroy the planet Dulkis, which was foiled by the Second Doctor.

S is for...

Sarah Jane Smith

Sarah Jane Smith was an investigative journalist who travelled with the Doctor in his third and fourth incarnations. She reunited with him in his tenth incarnation and had adventures with him and his immediate successor. Sarah Jane met nine of the Doctor's incarnations in total: those already mentioned and the First, Second, Fifth, Sixth, and Sevenths. Due to her experiences with the Doctor, she was entrusted with the task of protecting Earth from hostile extraterrestrials and helping peaceful aliens. She shared these adventures with her young companions/surrogate family.
