TARDIS
The Doctor's time machine, the name stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space, a name the Doctor's granddaughter Susan claimed to have invented, though it seems to be widely used. The Doctor stole it from Gallifrey to see the universe, though we've learnt recently that the TARDIS itself engineered this for the same reason.
An obsolete type 40, the TARDIS has many design flaws, and its chameleon circuit is broken so that, instead of disguising itself, it always appears to be a police box. Intelligent and telepathic, the TARDIS enables those who travel in it to speak any language, and it frequently takes the Doctor where he needs to go, rather than where he wants to.
The TARDIS is bigger on the inside (or smaller on the outside) and may even be infinite. Its internal design can be changed completely at any time. The TARDIS allegedly likes it when the Doctor calls it "sexy".

Underworld
Underworld was the fifth story of Season 15 of Doctor Who. It was the first over which script editor Anthony Read had complete creative control. Read asked writers Bob Baker and Dave Martin to make the script an explicit allegory of the myth of Jason and the Quest for the Golden Fleece.
Underworld used by far the most colour separation overlay (CSO) in the programme's history. Rampant inflation had eaten away at the budget for the back half of the season and using CSO to create virtually every shot of the alien world featured in the story was the only feasible way to preserve the production of The Invasion of Time. The story also advanced the mythos of the Time Lords by explaining the origin of their non-interference policy.

Vastra
Vastra was a female Silurian warrior who shared a house at 13 Paternoster Row with Jenny Flint, her maid and subsequently her wife, in Victorian London. She, along with Jenny and Strax assisted the Doctor on a number of occassions. Vastra's investigative exploits were believed have been appropriated by Arthur Conan Doyle for fictionalisation in The Strand in which he attributed them to his character, Sherlock Holmes.

Wotan
WOTAN was one of the first artificial intelligences created on Earth by Professor Brett. Its name stood for Will Operating Thought ANalogue. Deciding to conquer the world, WOTAN ordered the construction of mobile, armed computers which were designated War Machines. These were constructed in locations across the city. Eventually it was defeated by the Doctor.

Xoanon
Xoanon was the computer for an Earth spaceship exploring a distant planet. It was damaged on landing, and the Doctor repaired it by plugging his own mind into it, but forgot to wipe his personality afterwards, leading to the computer developing a split personality. It forced the ship's crew to split into two very different tribes (one of which includes Leela) and its id created monsters. The Doctor eventually manages to cure Xoanon of its insanity, and it's once more pledged to serve the descendents of the ship's crew.

Yartek
Yartek was the leader of the Voord who discovered how to resist the Conscience of Marinus. Invading the building where the Conscience was kept, Yartek and his followers killed Arbitan. Yartek then posed as Arbitan — dressing in the Keeper's robe, keeping in the shadows and hiding his features beneath the hood of the garment — to get the keys to the Conscience from Ian Chesterton. He was killed in the destruction of the Conscience when he placed a false key in the machine resulting in an explosion.

The Zarbi were an insectoid species native to Vortis. The Zarbi resembled giant ants, though with four small arms and two powerful legs. They communicated by screeching and rubbing their legs together. Much like bees, Zarbi also communicated by dancing.

Amy
Amelia Jessica Pond was the first companion of the Doctor in his eleventh incarnation. She was the girlfriend and later wife of human nurse Rory Williams and the mother of River Song. When River married the Doctor, Amy became his mother-in-law. Amy died aged 87 in an unknown time period before 2012 after allowing a Weeping Angel to send her back in time so she could be reunited with her husband who had been touched by the Angel. She was buried beside her husband in a graveyard in Queens, New York.

Barbara
Barbara Wright was a history teacher at Coal Hill School in London. When she and colleague Ian Chesterton attempted to solve the mystery of their student Susan Foreman, they ended up being whisked away in the TARDIS by the Doctor and Susan. Initially wanting nothing more than to get home, Barbara came to enjoy their travels, and her experiences ranged from being worshipped by the Aztecs to being pursued amorously by Nero and losing several cardigans.
Although enjoying occasional flirtations, notably with the Thal Ganatus, Barbara's feelings for Ian seemed to deepen as they travelled. They eventually took the opportunity of a captured Dalek time-machine to come home, returning to London two years after they left.
In 2010, Sarah Jane described them as a couple and both professors at Cambridge. She claimed they hadn't aged, though that can only be treated as hearsay.

Cybermen
Cybermen were a "race" of cybernetically augmented humanoid. They varied greatly in design, with different factions throughout time and space. The two major groups, from which all other known versions derived, were the Mondasian Cybermen, which originated on the planet Mondas – Earth's twin planet in the Doctor's Universe – and the Cybermen created by Cybus Industries, which originated on Earth in an alternate universe.
Despite the different origins, there were similarities between both groups of Cybermen, and there were groups that shared the characteristics of both. For the most part, they lacked individuality or names. Cybermen had no emotions and viewed them as a weakness. They frequently attempted to physically and mentally re-engineer humans and other humanoids into Cybermen, via a process called "cyber-conversion" or "upgrading".

Davros
Davros was originally the head of the Kaled Scientific Elite, on the planet Skaro, but became better known as the creator of the Daleks. During the Imperial-Renegade Dalek Civil War, he served as Emperor of the Imperial Dalek faction and later of the Dalek race as a whole, but his relationship with his creations was always tense. He was frequently hunted, maligned or otherwise denigrated by some portion of the overall Dalek population.
Despite the fact that he was not the unquestioned ruler of the Daleks, he was one of the Doctor's greatest enemies, rivalling the Master in intellect and madness.

Evil of the Daleks
The Evil of the Daleks was the ninth and final story of Season 4 of Doctor Who and the first to feature companion Victoria Waterfield, played by Deborah Watling. It was at the time intended to be the Doctor's final battle with the Daleks. Except for a few cameos, they did not appear again in the series for five years. Only episode two remains intact; the rest of the story has been lost.

Great Intelligence
The Great Intelligence is a disembodied entity with the power to possess people and to create artificial servants. It may have its origin in telepathic snow combining with the mind of a human during the 19th century, although there are suggestions that it had been around before that. Its most usual servants are robotic Yeti, and it used these to control a Tibetan monastery up to the 1930s, and then to attack London in the 1960s via the Underground system - an idea given to it inadvertently by the Doctor in 1892. The attack on the Underground, foiled with the help of the Doctor, led directly to the establishment of UNIT.

Hath were a humanoid race with purple and orange, fish-like skin and small headcrests running along the top of their heads. They were slightly taller than most near-humans. They breathed nutrient liquid rather than air. When in a human-breathable atmosphere, they used a breathing structure attached to their mouths.

Judoon
Judoon are galactic police, brutal in their precise application of the law and highly logical in their battle tactics, but not very intelligent. In fact, the Doctor states that, whilst their behaviour is (on the surface) that of a military police force, they are really little more than "interplanetary thugs". They have no jurisdiction on Earth and no authority to deal with human crime (when hunting a fugitive alien in an Earth hospital, they transported the building to the Moon); they will, however, strictly obey any laws on the planet they are on (e.g. road speed limits). The Judoon carry energy weapons which can incinerate humans.
Judoon are humanoid in form, with rhinoceros-like heads and only four digits on each hand: they wear black, bulky armour with heavy boots. According to the Doctor, the Judoon have a "great big lung reserve" which allows them to survive for extended periods in a limited oxygen environment. They have yellow blood, possibly due to a genetic lack of iron molecules.

K9
One of only two machines to qualify as a companion of the Doctor, K9 is a robot dog, originally made in the 50th century by Professor Marius, who gave him to the Doctor. The original K9 chose to stay on Gallifrey with Leela, after which the Doctor built a replacement, who stayed with him and Romana till both Romana and K9 remained in E-Space. The Doctor also built K9 Mark 3, whom he sent to Sarah Jane as a companion. He appeared to be destroyed blowing up the Krillitane, but the Doctor rebuilt him, though it's not clear whether this version should be called Mark 4 or a revamped Mark 3. K9 continued as Sarah Jane's companion, taking some time out to prevent a black hole created by CERN from engulfing Earth, until she sent him to Oxford with Luke.
In the meantime, one version of K9 (probably Mark 1) had been fitted with regenerative circuits and ended up in a near-future London, where he helped a group of teenagers to protect the Earth against alien invasion.
K9's personality has remained the same through his various versions. He's completely loyal to whoever he regards as "master" or "mistress", except for certain occasions when he's reprogrammed, and is always, at all times, eager to offer information, whether it's wanted or not. His attitude to other machines is more ambivalent, and he has what appears to be a love-hate relationship with Mr Smith, Sarah Jane's alien computer.

Liz Shaw
Dr. Elizabeth Shaw - or simply Liz Shaw - was a civilian member of UNIT. An accomplished and beautiful scientist, Liz assisted the Third Doctor while there. This often involved her winding up in the same life-threatening situations as the Doctor.
Generally, Liz was the Third Doctor's laboratory assistant rather than his travelling companion. She joined him at a time when the Doctor was just beginning his exile on Earth. She expressed disbelief that the TARDIS was capable of flight when she first met the Doctor and remained incredulous for some time thereafter.

Marinus
Marinus is a planet whose location is unknown, home to a people indistinguishable from humans. Civilisation on Marinus led to the development of a machine called the Conscience, whose influence controlled the way people thought and behaved. This was used to eradicate crime and violence, but a man called Yartek found a way to counter its influence, and with his followers, the Voords, who wore rubber suits (this may have been how they resisted the Conscience) attempted to seize the machine. Four of its Keys were scattered to the corners of Marinus, and the planet fragmented into a variety of cultures and civilisations, including Morphoton, ruled by disembodied brains, and the city of Millenius, civilised but with a draconian legal system. An attempt by the keeper of the Conscience, Arbitan, to recover the Keys succeeded, thanks to the Doctor and his companions, but he was murdered by Yartek, who was tricked by Ian Chesterton into destroying the machine. Nothing is known of how the planet developed after this.
