Matt Strevens has confirmed via Twitter that he is producing this. He's currently producer of Misfits.

There was a rumour about this a few days ago but I dismissed it because he has just appeared in the main show. Jessica Raine who is playing Verity Lambert is in two episodes of 7b, too. Probably not playing Verity Lambert though

I think that's great casting. I can definitely imagine David Bradley looking pretty much like Hartnell with only a bit of work. And in the anniversary episode? Pleeeeeeeze.

Very exciting news. I just hope that the lack of casting for Carole Ann Ford, Jackie Hill and William Russell isn't because they won't be featured.

It has been announced that Carol Ann Ford will be played by newcomer Claudia Grant. You can read the story by SFX Magazine HERE

Here is an updated cast list.
Doctor Who actors
David Bradley as William Hartnell, who portrayed the First Doctor Jamie Glover as William Russell, who portrayed Ian Chesterton Jemma Powell as Jacqueline Hill, who portrayed Barbara Wright Claudia Grant as Carole Ann Ford, who portrayed Susan Foreman Reece Shearsmith as Patrick Troughton, who portrayed the Second Doctor Sophie Holt as Jackie Lane, who portrayed Dodo Chaplet Nicholas Briggs as Peter Hawkins, original voice of the Daleks and Cybermen
Behind-the-scenes personnel
Brian Cox as Sydney Newman, co-creator Jessica Raine as Verity Lambert, original producer Sacha Dhawan as Waris Hussein, original director Sarah Winter as Delia Derbyshire, creator of composer Ron Grainer's theme tune Jeff Rawle as Mervyn Pinfield, former associate producer Andrew Woodall as Rex Tucker, director Ian Hallard as Richard Martin, director David Annen as Peter Brachacki, original production designer Sam Hoare as Douglas Camfield, director Mark Eden as Donald Baverstock, controller of BBC One
Others
Lesley Manville as Heather Hartnell, wife of William Hartnell Cara Jenkins as Judith "Jessica" Carney, granddaughter of William Hartnell William Russell as Harry Carole Ann Ford as Joyce Reece Pockney as Alan Charlie Kemp as Arthur Roger May as Len Kit Connor as Charlie
According to wiki: In order to make the drama understandable to a general audience not knowledgeable about the history of Doctor Who, not all of those involved in its creation are represented in the script. For example, the programme's original story editor David Whitaker does not appear, and his role is merged with that of associate producer Mervyn Pinfield.

I'm still puzzled about the inclusion of Jackie Lane/Dodo. I don't have a problem with it, I just don't understand why it would fit in.

Isn't that a bit of a sore point in the show though, what with the way she was let go? Maybe they are finally going to address it and put some facts to the rumours?

Also I love that Carole Ann Ford and William Russell are going to be in this. Huge shame that Jacqueline Hill isn't still around too.

That's true, but it still doesn't fit in with a drama about the start of the show, since Dodo didn't turn up till 1966. Gatiss said in an interview a little while back that while they are looking into the origins of the show, he is writing it more as Hartnell's story, which is why they are going as far as having Patrick Troughton in it and Hartnell's reaction to being replaced. I still don't know why that would tie in to having Jackie Lane/Dodo there instead of any of the other ones, but it at least explains why it goes that far in.

Apparently, William Russell will be playing William Hartnell's driver.
