I rewatched this last night when I couldn't sleep and once again it was brilliant. One of my favourite First Doctor serials. It's great to see DW's first attempt at a comedy and I think they pull it off brilliantly. The scenes with Ceasar chasing Barbara around are great and the sets and costumes are fantastic. Some brilliant bonus features too. Any fans of this serial on here?

YES!!!

This, I think, is my favourite First doctor serial. the guy who plays Nero is hysterical and the costumes they use are probably the best in the shows first few years. I could watch this one over and over. The bonus features are good, but James Moran bumbling on about the Pompeii episode just seem really out of place. Not because it doesnt fit in with the serial, but because he is sat there patting himself on the back for work that we all know was extensively rewritten by someone else

Another one of those stories that's far better than its reputation. A lot of people seem to really dislike it because of the amount of comedy in it, but if you accept it on its own terms (i.e. don't expect it to take itself too seriously) its a really fun story.
I love the way the characters all keep just missing seeing one another. And Nero's reaction to his servant being poisoned had me in stitches!

Another one of those serials I own, but never watched. (bought after my initial run through the doctors.) Maybe tomorrow when I don't have a class I'll give it a shot. Sounds like a fun, relaxing episode.

I do like this, but personally I wouldnt rate it as one of the best First Doctor stories. For me that honour would go to The Time Meddler. This is good for what it is, but its a bit thin on plot

The Time Meddlar is also really good. I really like that story. Its a good first proper story for Steven and of course The Monk is brilliant. He should make a return!!!

Definitely one of the top Hartnell stories! It's a great refresher and change of pace from the usual stories. It's nice for some light hearted fun, and comedy. The tone of this story was just so entertaining and light hearted.

I love this story. The scenes with Nero were particularly good and it was great to see the regulars show their comedic side. Definately one of the stronger stories of the season.
