This is the thread for discussion of the overnight ratings, the official ratings, audience share, AI, iPlayer hits and anything else to do with ratings for this episode.

The initial ratings, share and AI will be from the UK, though these may be expanded upon later to take into account figures from elsewhere in the world such as the US and Australia.

Please feel free to discuss the ratings and share your thoughts on how well this episode is doing. For ratings relating to other episodes, please check the relevant threads.

If you need any help understanding how the ratings and AI is calculated, then feel free to ask and either a moderator or fellow member will advise you.

Figures aren't bad for mid season, though with the introduction of a new companion I'd have thought it may have been a bit higher.

I think the ratings bump is pretty much the only reason they keep splitting the seasons. It helps with the midseason slump the show always suffered from.

I don't think we will ever know the real reason. Moff has given us about 300 and nothing seems to stick. Initially it was going to be one split season to transition to autumn airing, then it was so that we were never more than 3 or 4 months from new episodes. Then it was 'even better' to air it either side of Christmas, essentially putting it back on in the spring. Then we were getting 'More Who than ever before' and now we have had (by the time S8 starts) one series and one special in about 2 and a half years. I think it's nothing to do with ratings and all to do with budget cuts.

I don't think Moff even really knows what's going on. It's bound to be a money thing. Budgets are cut, but DW is the biggest earner for the BBC so they shouldn't be cutting it. Shooting themselves in the foot.

I expected something higher tbh. It was treated like an opener and had a new companion. Figures were good, but I thought they'd be better
