There is a lot of debate in fandom, especially now with the anniversary upon us, about whether or not multi Doctor stories work and whether they should be done.
I think for cases like this where the history of the show is being celebrated, then having many incarnations on screen is a nice way of looking back. Unfortunately, and I say this despite loving the serial and just voting it a five, sometimes they just feel a bit daft. I don't mind that so much though for the celebrations like this, I guess, but it makes them easier to mock among some of the snobbier types.
What do you think? Do they work?

I'd agree that they're fine for special occasions, when the occasion outweighs the story, but I wouldn't want to see them happening regularly. The Two Doctors worked without being an occasion, but then that was just two Doctors and two companions.

When it comes to anniversary specials like this I am all for going all out and throwing everything in the mix, but doing it for the sake of it would make the whole thing seem a bit silly

I think the Two Doctors worked well enough without it having to be an event. If the story is good then I don't think they need to wait to make a big deal of it. That's not to say I think they should be doing them all the time either though.

This story is ok and for an anniversary I think it's a cool way of looking back at the show, but none of the multi Doctor stories have been that strong. I still want one for the 50th though

I like them. They're just a bit of fun and a good excuse to get people back. It's not a regular thing so no harm is done.

I'm not that bothered by them tbh. They are fun, I guess, but I don't think you need to bring them all back to celebrate the show. I like little nods much more. Like when Eleven had a picture of his first incarnation on his library card. Things like that always make me smile and I think ties into the classics in a far neater way.

Oh my god Karen, you can't just ask someone why they're white!
