Speaking to Australian radio station Triple J, Gaiman commented:
I got an email from Steven Moffat and he said ‘would you like to make the Cybermen scary?’ and I just looked at it for 30 seconds and sent him a message back saying ‘yes.’ But you’re going to have to wait and see how I’ve made them more scary.
Understandably for a writer of his experience, Gaiman knows that the best way to get those scares is the element of surprise. So he’s remained tight-lipped on the details but did let slip that this episode is nothing like his previous one, The Doctor’s Wife, (which he describes as ‘very odd and weird’) and that the Cybermen were not, as we may have been lead to believe, the main focus of the episode.

I don't mind them not being the main focus, but I hope it doesn't turn in to something like Closing Time where they are wasted.

In Gaiman we trust! I know he will do us proud I'm taking this approach, because The Doctor's Wife was awesome

In Gaiman we trust! I know he will do us proud I'm taking this approach, because The Doctor's Wife was awesome I think Neil Gaiman 'gets' the show as much as any writer. And I totally agree PRG, The Doctor's Wife is certainly my favourite Matt Smith story and compares well with any story from any era!
