Do they work? Would you like to see them in the show again?

Yes and yes, simply. Historicals are always my favourite and I think they work much better when they aren't facing something alien, but just something 'bad' from the time. I'd like to see them give it a go again.

I agree. Much as I enjoy many of the "sci-fi historicals", I love seeing the Doctor and companions simply dealing with the issues of a historical period, as in Marco Polo, The Aztecs and The Romans. Actually, the closest thing in the new era (though not completely pure historical) was probably the SJA Lost in Time.

I don't think they will ever do another one and that's a shame. They have been, for me at least, some brilliant stories and I think there are loads more that can be told. It doesn't always have to come down to aliens invading earth or trying to change history. I'd love to see them do another but I really don't think they ever will.

I would love them to try and do one, but I don't think they ever will. I'm not sure they would risk it with todays audience. They seem to want more spacey stuff. Though I never really notice the missing sci-fi when I watch the old ones. I think they work well.

Bring them back. In fact, just more historicals in general would suit me. They seem to be getting fewer as we go on (he says, after the last episode was set 150 years ago!)

If Steven Moffat is reading (NOT!) I implore him to give thought to a pure historical or at least a pseudo-historical (the proper name of the sci-fi-historicals) without a famous person in it. Sure there's Vincent and the Doctor and Tooth and Claw (amazing stories) but, then again, we've got Victory of the Daleks (blecch). I think there's something to be said for stories like The Aztecs, The Highlanders (probably) and Black Orchid. They've got a fun, light feel about them that just WORKS and, based on the audio alone, Marco Polo looks like one of the greatest Who stories ever. Just because The Gunfighters was a travesty doesn't mean other historicals are boring and didn't click. I'd prefer Reign of Terror over The Web Planet any day. Watching Black Orchid makes one want more historicals but it was, sadly, a failed experiment but still a great story.
