And I am bloody chuffed!

What are your thoughts and opinions on the casting? Happy? Displeased?

I think he will be a good Doctor. I've not really come across him before apart from in Fires of Pompeii and CoE. I should really watch those episodes again to remind myself, but I'm happy as seem the majority of the Who fan-base so I think he'll be a hit. Smiley

I think it's brilliant - so pleased to have an older Doctor again. Not that young ones aren't great, but I think it will add an interesting new direction to the show.

I think that he will be great, and I feel that he and Jenna will have a very Four/SJS relationship

Not a name I'd even thought of, but the moment they announced the name my first thought was "yes, I can see that".  Although I'm certainly not in a hurry to get rid of Matt, I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

My only worry is that he won't stick around. He's a well known actor who isn't exactly struggling for work, so I'm not sure what his incentive would be for giving us 2 or 3 seasons. I think he will be great in the role, based on what I have seen of him in other roles, but it will be a shame if he ends up leaving early on, which is a feeling that I am getting already.

He is a lifelong fan of the show - that could be enough to keep him in the role for a while.

I loved the line about him not having played the Doctor since he was about nine  Cool

I think he is going to be awesome. I've never seen a bad performance from him and he has more than showed his range in his roles. I'm very excited to see what he does with the role because I think he will be massively different to Matt.

Not that I have a problem with Matt, I just think change is good.

Absolutely 100% delighted. This is a brilliant choice and I think will provide an amazing contrast to Matt Smith. Capaldi is not only an amazing actor but he is also a wonderfully creative soul, I think the programme can only benefit from having someone this immensely talented involved.

And he has an Oscar to show for that creativeness - not important, but still very cool  Smiley

I think it's slightly odd considering he has been in Who before (and not in so small a role as Martha/Amy) and TW too, but I'm still pleased. I'm really excited to see an older Doctor, gonna make for a different take! And less Dr/companion romance too Smiley

I think he is an awesome choice and I think having him in the role (or any older actor for that matter) will really change the dynamic of the show. It will be good to see what he does with it.

I think he is a great choice and I absolutely love that he has always been such a fan of the show.  I am looking forward to see what he brings to the character.

I thought this was pretty cool. It's RTD's opinion about Capaldi.

“Perfect casting, just perfect! I’d kept Peter’s number after we worked together on The Fires of Pompeii and Torchwood. I loved him as an actor, and a writer, and a director, I was actually in awe of him, and so clung to his number, in a slightly stalkerish way. Quite apart from his five million wonderful appearances on screen, I think that the scene in Episode 3 of Torchwood: Children of Earth, where Peter’s character faces the 456 for the first time, is one of the finest performances in anything ever. Seriously. Anything. Ever.”

He adds: “I was as surprised as anyone! I’d heard rumours about Peter in the weeks beforehand, but I’d convinced myself it couldn’t be true, because he’s in The Musketeers. In fact, I was quite sad, cos I thought about him a lot, and realised how good he’d be, and now we’d never get to see him. Damn. So the moment Zoe Ball said his name was actually quite mind-blowing. I still find it difficult, even now to find adjectives big and bold enough to describe how brilliant this is!

“So I texted him on Sunday, saying ‘Oh my God’. And imagine, just imagine how many texts he got that night. But then today, the phone went ping, and there he was. Doctor Who. On my mobile. And a new golden age begins! That’s four golden ages in a row now!”
