No news yet, other than the fact that the Doctor will be played by Peter Capaldi & Jenna Coleman will continue to play Clara. This is here ready & waiting for all S8 news. If you have news about the anniversary episode there is a separate thread for that

She has to come back. I love her! I wish we had something to go on. It feels like the show has shut down. I want spoilers and set reports!

I've seen tweets saying that Neil Cross will be writing an ep for S8 & Neil Gaiman will be back for a 3rd ep in either S8 or S9. I shall do some investigating to see if I can find out more about it.

This could be the decider for Gaiman, if true. He has had one awesome and one so-so episode so far. I hope he knocks it out of the park because it's so obvious he can do brilliant things.

I've actually liked both of his episodes. The Cybermen one wasn't as strong as his first, but I think it was a long way from bad.

It's not so much that I think it is bad, I just think that it's not great. He had a hard task after his last episode and to be honest, the liklihood was that he was going to 'fail' in living up to that. If this was written by anyone else I think it would be seen as better, but from Gaiman I think more was expected.

I definitely agree that he had a lot to prove with the episode. And I also agree that had someone else written this it may have been received better, but I still thought it was great anyway. I tend not to pay too much attention to who is writing, I just hope that I get entertained for 45 minutes while it's on. Based on that, I'd say this one was a winner for me. Not perfect, but very good.

Here's what Neil Cross had to say on the issue: "I am going back, I have got story ideas tucked away, but if I told you about them I would have to kill you. There's a whole bunch of stuff I want to do. Steven is clearly very busy with the 50th anniversary special and Christmas special, but I have to find out from Steven what his intentions for the Doctor are and what sort of stories he wants me to write." He was talking to Stuff in New Zealand. And here's Neil Gaiman talking to DW Online - he mentions writing again & talks about other things Who related as well:

We should have a thread for random interviews. This is from BlogtorWho
Current showrunner Steven Moffat was talking with Frank Skinner and Fred MacAulay earlier this evening at the AdLib Comedy event in Edinburgh. During the session both Doctor Who and Sherlock were discussed and there was also a Q&A with the audience. Highlights below!
What are the chances of Peter Jackson directing an episode? "He's serious about it. We talked at The Hobbit premiere - he just wants a Dalek. So we'll give him a Dalek and he'll direct an episode. I think he'd like to us to go to New Zealand. I think it's entirely possible."
Rumour that JK Rowling is writing a short story for the 50th Anniversary. "I can't confirm that..., right now."
A return for the Doctor's daughter, Jenny? "The door is open, it's entirely possible."
Similarly, a return for Romana? "I have actually given no thought at all to Romana. The Time Lords are dead in my mind. They died."
Will Peter Capaldi's Doctor have a Scottish accent? "I'd be very surprised if he didn't"
On the importance of Rose Tyler. "When the show came back, I think it really was Billie Piper who brought it back. Those first two years, that was Billie Piper's show. It became David Tennant's show in the third year but it was all about Billie, and Billie as Rose. And Russell [T Davies, former showrunner] was clever in writing that character and casting that character so perfectly. Seriously, in the first two years, that was Billie Piper's show."
Regarding the casting of an older actor being cast as the next Doctor (Peter Capaldi, in case you'd forgotten), Frank Skinner suggested: "I hope it will stop Steven's temptation to make it all flirty between The Doctor and the companion," to which Steven Moffat replied sarcastically, "Yeah, 'cos older blokes - they just don't ever flirt with girls, do they?" Skinner also suggested that Dorium Maldovar would be a brilliant companion. "You really do want to reduce the flirting! I love the character. We would bring him back if we had a good story for him. But he's just a head in a box, which could make it slightly limiting.

Some snippets from this months DWM.
- Moffat is pretty certain Capaldi will keep his native Scottish accent for the role - At the moment, they’ve only discussed Twelve’s costume in the lightest terms - Moffat wanted to flip the switch the other way after having two youthful and accessible Doctors in a row - He’s going to be an older, trickier and fiercer Doctor - “Just as Clara’s learning to have a proper old crush on him, suddenly he’s Malcolm Tucker!” - Moffat thinks it’ll be fun seeing Clara cope with the Doctor being completely different… ”I think the fun story will be – and we have the opportunity here – is this is what regeneration can do to you. He can be very, very different.” - “People really love Jenna, so we make the Doctor quite difficult…” - Moffat likens the situation to Tom Baker’s first season: “He’s really quite difficult to take at the beginning, and you’re very grateful that Sarah and the Brigadier are there to reassure you.”

Anything can happen in his regen story. As long as it doesn't continue into other stories then it should be fine.

Not a spoiler, but apparently Moffat has 'confirmed' (I'll put it like that because we know that, like The Doctor, Moff lies) that at least 13 episodes will air next year.

Well, quite apart from us, I think Capaldi would be quite p!ssed off if he didn't get a full series.

I've seen on Twitter that Gareth Roberts is writing an episode for S8. Also, today is the first day of filming & the BBC have posted a pic - no sign of PC's own costume yet though.
