Well, apart from some annual festival or other being celebrated, the Christmas number one in the UK was apparently That's My Goal by Shayne Ward.  That one passed me by.

December 31st – Another second is added, 23:59:60, called a leap second, to end the year 2005. The last time this occurred was on June 30, 1998.
