I don't know how true it is or where it's come from, but there is a lot of talk that half way through season 8 the Doctor will pick up a new male companion. Clara won't be leaving though and they will all travel together.

Perhaps it's because of watching from the start, but I've always preferred there being a group in the TARDIS, rather than just one companion.  As long as they're not a couple - it worked fine once, but I don't think it's something they should repeat again for a while.

Well most of the rumours say he will be a love interest for Clara, but I hope that's speculation rather than come from inside.

He is also vain, ego-centric and quite mad

When Jon Pertwee left the show, the intention was to replace him with an older Doctor, so the production team created Harry Sullivan to go with Sarah-Jane in the TARDIS and do the physical stuff. With the casting of Capaldi (the oldest Doctor since Hartnell) I wonder if the production team are going to do the same?

That was my initial thought, tbh, but I think Capaldi could probably hold his own. He seems relatively fit. I don't like the idea of there being a love interest with Clara though. To be honest I'm tired of couples on the show.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no!

No love interest. Please. I'm so tired of it in the show. I only came on board in 2010, so it's been a sort of regular fixture for me, but I hate it. The more clued up I get and the more aware of the classics I become, the more I hate seeing romance from the regulars. By all means bring in a new companion. I think it would be cool. I just don't want them to shag.

I think more than one companion is how I prefer it, but in the new run of stories I think they are a bit short to service the characters properly. In the classics we had several parts to a story and more often than not everyone had something to do, but since it returned, whenever there has been a second, namely Mickey and Rory, they just seem to be an afterthought. I wouldn't want that to happen again.
