Rewatching some old episodes lately and the flashbacks to Victorian Torchwood got me thinking. How would you feel if they decided to do a series or spinoff set entirely within Cardiff Torchwood during the end of the 19th century? It could still have Jack in it, as we know he worked for them then. They could call it Torchwood 1890 or something Would you watch?

I would absolutely LOVE a Victorian Torchwood (actually I'd probably go for a slightly later Edwardian Torchwood/early years of the 20th century T'Wood). This is a brilliant idea. You could have fun with all of the folk lore of England, have a dabble with the Titanic. The opportunities are endless.

I have to admit, one of the biggest reasons for me wanting it would be as you said, the folklore and history that they could play with. Im also a big fan of the sets and costumes of the era and think even on a low budget they could make it look so fabulous. Imagine how good the hub would look decked out in all the Victorian/Edwardian get up. Plus, the set is still standing so they could use it and just redress it

Just thinking about how it could work. Imagine if a young Alexander Fleming or John Logie Baird had worked for T'Wood before going off to make their great discoveries. You could weave them in as lead characters. You could have T'Wood deployed in Egypt as Howard Carter excavates the tomb of Tutenkhamun. Peri - this is absolute gold - you should pitch it to Big Finish! I'd happily co-write it with you

Haha I love those ideas. We should get on the case and make millions. Expecially as the TW audios seem to have come to an end. I just love the idea of it. Ive thought about it a few times and thought I would see what others peoples thoughts on it were. I think it could work equally as well on screen or on an audio, though I would prefer it on the telly so that I could see it because I think an important part of something like this would be the look and feel of it. Saying that though, the things you can dream up in your mind when listening to an audio can be just as exciting.

OMG I love this idea!! I cant believe they havent jumped on it already and made something of it. I think it would be very popular. Perhaps we could have Torchwood solve the Ripper case. The normal police couldnt find him because he was detained in their vaults because he was actually an alien or something. I know, probably a stupid idea, but I like it at least

I love this idea. Ive thought about it in the past and think it could work so well. Perhaps a little more toned down than the first two series. More in the way of CofE and on sundays at nine or something. And Roranicus, I love the Jack the Ripper idea. I think that could work really well. Im also in favour of Chris and Peri writing a series for Big Finish so I could listen to it on my travels to and from work

I personally wouldn't like it, but that just my own opinion because I don't episodes set in the past, I never really have, even like on Buffy and Angel, when they have the flashbacks to the past with Angelus ect, I hate it, doesn't sit well with me. I'd still watch it, because you know, Torchwood rocks my world, but I'd miss Gwen too much also.

Perhaps she could get sucked back in time. The story could be her trying to convince Jack she knows him and get back to her time. Tosh ended up in the 40's so we know time shifts can happen

I kind of agree with Doomsday on this, though in a different way. Within the show itself I love the flashbacks, but as a whole series I think it wouldnt work so well. It would be pretty much exactly the same, just in a different year. For that, we may as well just stick with what we have. Admittedly I may think differently if Series 4 bombs with me. I am fickle also

When whispers of s4 started I was hoping for a prequel, but I'm liking the idea of it being done in audio more now. There would be far less budget needed to pull it off for a start

When whispers of s4 started I was hoping for a prequel, but I'm liking the idea of it being done in audio more now. There would be far less budget needed to pull it off for a start I am a great fan of audio for a number of reasons. First, when I was younger, my bohemian parents didn't really believe in TV so I was brought up on radio 4 dramas and the like, so there is something primal for me about an audio drama. Secondly, as Sandi rightly states, it doesn't need a big budget so the stories can be that much more epic. You can have trips to India, Egypt and where ever and you are not tied in by location shoots. Third and perhaps most importantly, it is a very intimate way of storytelling; the listener needs to concentrate, it can't just be a passive experience, the listener needs to fill in the colour and texture of the play. Correspondingly, this imposes a duty on a writer, who needs to be that much more thoughtful when writing the dialogue. Finally, there are some wonderful voice character actors out there who can really bring this to life.
