Impressive but a little confusing.  I'm going to hold off rating it till I've watched it at least once more.  My first reaction was that it was a little disjointed, but I have a feeling that I might not feel that on a second watch.  There was certainly a great deal of it that I loved.

Sort of middling. I found it difficult to understand what Peter Capaldi was saying sometimes. He seemed to be rushing. I think he could well improve, though. Didn't like the idea of the TARDIS being stuck in the dinosaur's throat, but at least they made it sort of relevant to the story. Always liked the clockwork robots, and the idea of them making themselves into people and heading for the promised land was interesting, as was the ending. Intriguing, but I wouldn't say that great.

I've given it a 4, mostly for the issue I've mentioned in another thread that I really don't get the strength of Clara's reaction against the new Doctor. Otherwise, I found it a lot less disjointed on rewatch, and I think the story hangs together pretty well.  The dinosaur was a little random, but it was tied into the main story.  I really liked Capaldi's Doctor, and I think I'm going to enjoy his tenure.

I'm with Nyki and going to give it a 4. It wasn't as good as it could have been I think. And the "monster" seemed too similar to cybermen to me.

I voted "Not bad, not great".  I didn't think it was as good as Matt Smith's debut episode.  Peter Capaldi was good; I'm still missing Eleven though.  I avoided spoilers so was so happy to see his cameo!  I wanted to kiss the screen!   Kiss

I also found Clara's reaction a bit odd.  She of all people should know he can't change back.

Wasn't that dinosaur a tad big?  I know they were huge, but as tall as Big Ben?   Shocked

Can somebody tell me what The Doctor said to Clara after he said "I'm not your boyfriend" and she replied "I never thought you were"?  I've tried several times and can't make out what he said.

"I never said it was your mistake" or words to that effect.

Jenny protested that they weren't that big, saying that she'd seen the bones in the museum, and Vastra countered that by saying she was there. I'm not sure what point they were making - maybe poking fun at the way we make sweeping assumptions from a few finds.

LOL, maybe!  I guess they had to make it big enough to swallow the TARDIS!

BTW, they explained why the spontaneous combustion occurred, but not how, from what I recall.
