OK, again I'm not going to rate this till I've had a chance to rewatch it.  There's a lot that's cool about it (I loved the glimpse of the Doctor as a child, but that we didn't really see him) and I always like a bit of good timey-wimeyness.  On the other hand, if the Doctor's dream was actually Clara, why does "everyone else" have it (excluding me, by the way)?  And are we supposed to think that all the writing, the banging, the figure on the bed etc are all natural coincidences?  Or was the Doctor right, but just didn't prove it?

I suspect this is going to end up as a four, as a brilliant concept that sags a bit under its weight (like the bed).

I think that this is just the kind of episode Capaldi needed. That there was little in the way of resolution may put some people off it (was there something under the sheet in Danny's room, or were we just seeing what they were imagining? If there was, what was it?) On the whole I didn't mind that. Other plot contrivances seemed more forced. For instance, he takes Orson back in time as a "test flight", then goes back to the end of the universe (why?) and then has to recharge in order to take Orson back again. Huh? Why not just take Orson where he wanted to go in the first place? But the quality of the acting, direction, and music papered over the few cracks. Can't quite give it a 5, but I think its a cut above the earlier episodes that all got a 3 from me. So, on the whole, I'm going with a 4.

Given it a 4. It was pretty creepy and loved the whole early Doctor bit. Capaldi is definitely starting to grow on me Smiley

I loved it!  Very creepy, but not so much that I slept with the lights on (like I wanted to do after "Silence in the Library"  LOL).  The brief glimpse we got of the thing on Rupert's bed sure didn't look like a kid.  I would have liked to have seen what was outside the airlock of Orson's ship too.  The invisible "Hiders" (if they exist!) remind me a lot of the Silence.

The barn at the end didn't look to be the same one that the War Doctor was in; maybe it was rebuilt?  The one quibble I have with this episode is how did Clara pilot the TARDIS to a world that was supposedly stasis locked and hidden away outside our universe?

I've given it a 5 in the end. Probably more like 4.5, but I'd rather mark it up than down. On a second watch, I'm satisfied it's enigmatic, rather than muddled.

One thought - I wonder if the child Doctor's night terrors were after he'd looked into the Untempered Schism.
