Every Doctor has had a very distinct look

But which has been your favourite of them all, and what kind of outfit do you think the next Doctor?

for me, my two favourites are Chris Eccleston and Matt Smith. I like Chris' because it was very current but at the same time could fit for lots of eras. It also really suited his character portrayal. Matt's I hated when I first saw it. I thought he looked like a total idiot. But when it was on the screen it was just perfect and now I cant imagine him wearing anything else.

I like them all except 6's.

And originally 11's outfit was conceived to look something like Captain Jack Sparrow's from Pirates of the Caribbean, and Matt Smith said "That looks like something some one else would dress the Doctor in, not what he would dress himself in" then he pulled the tweed jacket out of his own wardrobe, and went from there.

I like Matt's, but agree with the OP, I really wasnt keen until I saw him in action. His jacket always seemed a little small but they have rectified that this year. I liked CE's, but it made him seem a bit too 'normal'. I absolutely loved the look of the first 2 Doctors. Three's velevet dinner jackets were ok, but I kept expecting him to break out a pipe and sing a tune by the piano. Six and Seven were my least favourite. The question marks were an indication that the show had become too aware of itself and what JNT thought was a funny in-joke, was just a joke and way too gimmicky.

I like them all for different reasons. Some are better than others admittedly, but I think for good or bad, the costumes of the Doctor are as much a part of their character as any other of his characteristics

Ten for me. His outfit was the best. Simple, but summed his Doctor up completely

Ten had it going on with his outfit, and like many others I thought I would hate Matts, but its grown on me and now I love it. I like them all though I guess but for different reasons. I love how each Doctor carried their outfits off so well that if they all swapped around they would all look totally stupid in the different clothes. Get me?

Yea i get you. If Ten had worn Matts he would have looked stupid, but Matt looks awesome in it.

As a side note, Ive just been putting some River pictures up and decided that regardless of the Doctor costume, Moff should make her wear the black catsuit throughout series 6 Tongue

A different shirt, and a longer coat with no elbow patches. But basically the same look.

Besides, he will alternate that with his old outfit, since we've seen set pics of him in the short coat and red shirt.

He wears a version of the new outfit in the upcoming SJA episode:

Eleven's new coat has elbow patches, at least the pictures we saw a month or so ago when they began filming had the patches.

I like Nine's outfit the best; he looked the most "normal" of all the Doctors as far as clothing goes.  I like Eleven's outfit too, but anyone wearing a bow tie and suspenders is going to stand out.  Nine could walk down the street and nobody would give him a second glance.

I don't know what they were thinking when they dressed the 6th Doctor, poor guy.

No that was his old coat. He still wears his original outfit, it's on rotation with the new one.

I totally agree with you, I loved 9's understated 'U-Boat Commander' style (I have tried to carry it off myself with absolutely no success). I also really like Sylvester McCoy's style - I know almost all of the actors hated JNT's putting question marks everywhere but I liked it on 7. I also think it speaks volumes about McCoy's much underrated acting ability that he took the umbrella and turned it into a prop. 10's outfits were perfect for him and I think I really like 11's as well.

Poor Colin Baker got such a bum deal - I know it was the 80s but I can find no redeeming features in his outfit. He states that he wanted an Indiana Jones style costume; how much more seriously would his incarnation of the Doctor have been taken I wonder?

He needs a fedora, but yeah, he definitely went up a few notches.
