From the SFX Website;

You know a few weeks back Sylvester McCoy said he was in talks to appear in The Hobbit, and we all thought he may have been pulling our legs? Well, according to the Doctor Who News Page he wasn’t.

The former Doctor Who told fans he has been cast as Radagast the Brown at the Armageddon Expo in Auckland yesterday. Apparently McCoy had meetings in Wellington with Jackson and co-producer and co-writer Philippa Boyens last week, where he was offered the role, but contracts have not yet been signed.

Radagast the Brown is one of the Istari, or Wizards, who were sent by the angelic Valar to aid the Elves and Men of Middle-earth in their struggle against the Dark Lord Sauron. He is mentioned in the book The Hobbit, but doesn’t actually appear, so it seems Peter Jackson may be expanding on the book somewhat, and drawing in elements from the Silmarillion, perhaps.

I now have 2 reasons to watch/give a crap about this film if this is true. Here's to hoping the David Tennant rumour comes to fruition as well, although the mind boggles as to why anyone would cast Richard Armitage in anything other than MFI: The Movie.  Grin

Totally agree.

Last thing I saw him in was Still Game a couple years ago.
I have a lot of love for 7 & McCoy just seems a lovely guy.

No I am the same, Icey. Managed about half an hour of the first LOTR film and had to knock it off. It was crap. I wont be watching this either, but I am still pleased for Mccoy

I'm a huge LOTR fan (book & films) & I love The Hobbit (book) so I can't wait to see this.

Well done to McCoy if he has got the part  Smiley

Has Tennant been cast in this too, or is it just another fan rumour?

We can but hope - that, along with Fright Night, could propel DT right up there.
God knows he's a really gifted actor, so he deserves it.

I'm pleased for him but doubt I'll go and see it. Not a fan of LOTR either. Not sure even the lovely Mr T could entice me.  Shocked Grin

Well it already has a black mark for me as they've cast Guy of Gisboring in it.
Lord only knows why.
Dreadful actor with all the range of an ikea catalogue.

Richard Armitage.
He played Gisborne in the truly awful UK Robin Hood show on BBC1.
He's currently part of the furniture in Spooks (see what I did there?) and is apparently gonna be in Captain America.

I really dislike his acting, you may have noticed.

I'm sure the ladies don't love him for his oscar worthy performances though.  Grin
