I dont know if this is a spoiler or not, or if it is allowed but does anyone know why Tommy Knight is leaving? I read last week that the story will see Luke go off to Oxford Uni during series 4, but why has he left? Did he quit or was he let go for some reason?

Yea it is ok to post spoilers in here. There is a thread in this forum specifically for spoilers, but you can discuss them in the main body of the forum too. Just try to keep them out of the actual thread titles Cheesy

Yeah, I'm confused too with this... I know he's leaving, but in school years the way they've done it- if i've worked it out correctly then he would have skipped a year... in the first episdoe of S1, they say they're in year 9, meaning in S3 he's in year 11, so they must have skipped 2 years if he's going to uni!  Huh? Undecided

Oh well, all should become clear soon  Smiley

I heard that the actor is leaving to do his exams or something. Though in the show I think they have skipped a year as he apparantly leaves by driving off in his new car. I didnt even think he was old enough to drive, let alone pass his test already. Does he even drive in real life?

I doubt it, seeing as the actor has only just turned 17.

There could be a time skip, but it's also possible Luke's just going to uni early - which occasionally happens with real life child prodigies.

Yea I guess youre probably right. Though lots of shows lately are doing the time skip thing, so that could be it too.

Well, even if its not a "time skip" Luke is supposed to be the most intelligent human on the planet right?

So Im sure he can go to college early, and learn how to drive.

(Plus he takes K9 with him, so K9 can help him navigate Tongue )

going to uni early is one thing, but driving before you are 17 is illegal even for geniuses, so there has to be some explanation. Unless he goes totally off the rails, and the car he is driving off in is stolen. That would be quite an exit story Tongue

Oh. I wasn't aware of that. People here in the states can get a learners permit at 15.

You can get a learners licence from aged 16 here, but it is useless because you cant get behind the wheel of a car until you turn 17, even to practice

Wow. See, with the learners permit, at 15, you can drive the car as long as there is a licensed driver over 21 with you.

Interesting.

And just to stay on topic: We've seen the pics out of context so who knows.

Yea I guess you could be right. SJA has been pretty spoiler free this year, but I dont really actively look for it so much, so I could have missed, but I know there is a lot of speculation as to how Luke leaves

I read that he was allowed to back the car out of Sarah Janes drive, then a stunt double drove it off down the road

hmm yes about the driving (about to start myself, and being in the same age group/year as Luke should be if they did it all normally)...
You can get a provisional driving licence 4 months before you turn 17... so i've just got mine, (birthday a month today! woop)! The you turn 17 in year 12 (lower sixth) which would have been the year Luke should have been in... but cos he "fasttracked" all his A-Levels (wow he must have worked so hard if it was real!) he would have been 17 at the end of his year at sixth form!  (ok this seems like it's getting confusing now!)

Tommy Knight's birthday is in January 1993- and if filming started around April time? (am I right, correct me if not?!) He would have most probably started to learn to drive, as he would have been 17... so yeah, he would have been able to drive on the road too, but only if he had someone in the car with him who has had their licence for at least 3 years, or if he'd actually passed his test... and unless he started learning to drive in like car parks before he was 17, I doubt he would have passed his test in 4 months!  =P

HAHA sorry for that mini essay, and if any of it made sense I would be most amazed! And sorry if I ruined the less serious vibe of the convo with that! =P

From what I know, he doesnt drive in real life. But, because of the fact nobody else was in the car, and because of issues with insurance on set whether he could drive legally or not, he wouldnt have been allowed to drive the car. Set reporters at the time said that the car was pushed/pulled out of SJ's drive depending on camera angles, and then a stuntman drove it off down the road Smiley
