Sorry, I keep creating new threads but I love this story. It is one of my favourite from the whole series. For its time and considering what came either side of it, it is just brilliant. The sets, design, costumes, story, everything about it is just brilliant. It is made all the better by the fact that it is a pure historical. No aliens, no sci fi, no tech. They just wrote a great story and made it brilliant

Not forgetting Cameca, the lonely old woman that see's the Doctor as someone she would like to spend the rest of her life with.
Utterly beautiful and heartbreaking.

Mr. Magister raised his arms high and spoke the words of conjuration: ‘Hearken to my voice, oh Dark One; Ancient and awful; supreme in artifice; Bearer of power; I conjure thee! Be present here at my command And truly do my will! EVA, EVARA, EGABALA! GAD, GADOAL, GALDINA!’

Great story! Goes to show you don't need a 'monster of the week' every time to make it worth watching, just great scripts and some excellent performances from the cast. Especially Jacqueline Hill who, for me at least, gives her best ever performance in the show here.

I love this serial. And I agree, Barbara is amazing in it. She really comes into her own as a character and is brilliantly played by Jaqueline Hill. I could watch this over and over

I agree with all the Barbara related comments. She was awesome. Another of my favourite serials that she shines in is The Romans, though perhaps that is for another thread

I love the Romans too! From what I remember from a view years back this one is excellent too though. Loved all the historicals really, shame they stopped.

Another fine story and one of the best showcases in those early years of the talents of Jacqueline Hill as Barbara. One thing that sets this serial out amongst the ones that come along with it is the amazing set designs and costumes. They really got it spot on with this one

A wonderful story made truly awesome with the character scenes- Barbara's power madness and the Doctor's romance. The expression on his face when he realizes he's gotten engaged- despite being older than any human and old in appearance you can tell that he's still a youthful adventurer.
I was definitely impressed with the costumes and sets here, and power play grappling with the characters. This is probably my favorite Hartnell story.

Today, the Kaled race is ended, consumed in a fire of war. But, from its ashes will rise a new race. The supreme creature. The ultimate conqueror of the universe. The Dalek!

Another one of my favourites. Visually it was just brilliant. Barbara pretty much carried the story and Jacqueline Hill did an excellent job.
