After 14 years, the date for the American release of the movie has been confirmed for February 8, 2011.

Just thought I would let everyone know Cheesy

Its taken them long enough. There has been whispers of this for years and when the show came back it seemed a cert that it would get a release. At least more Americans can watch it and grumble Tongue

The ironic thing about delaying the American release is that it was generally regarded as too American  Undecided

Well, finally they've gotten around to it!  I've seen it before, but they may put on some new extras, or at least use the ones from the British release. Though it was filmed in Canada and not San Francisco where it was set, they did have a few establishing shots of the city, so it looked close enough for a TV movie. XD

What exactly were the rights issues that stopped it from being released?

The people who created that cover clearly havent seen the movie. I mean, if you want the movie to sell at all you hide that Master as much as you possibly can lol

I dont think that is the cover for the American release. I could be wrong, but I am sure I saw a different one with a picture of the doctor in the centre

It also makes it look like the Master is the main character.

If they can manage to put in new special effects and dalek voices and the like for other DVD releases, surely they can go through this one frame-by-frame and replace Eric Roberts with, well, any other actor in the world really.

Its worth picking it up just for the extras, assuming you get the same ones that were just on the rerelease over here

I'm still in two minds about the movie to be honest. I dont hate it by any means, but there are just too many things about it that dont sit right with me. I think seeing Eight take on a bigger role would have been great but at the same time I dread to think what a commisioned series would have been like if they had managed to get the go ahead

I'm contemplating getting this after listening to an Eighth Doctor Audio. Is it any good? Ive heard some mixed reviews but have seen it online for a not to shabby price so not sure whether to get it or not

The Movie is most definitely worth a viewing. It really is a glass half full/half empty thing amongst fandom I think. If you are looking for a personal recommendation I will happily say that I love it. It's best not taken too seriously and considering it is meant to be McGann as the lead role, there is an awful lot of Sly McCoy in it (surely no bad thing). There are some terrible clunking moments (Eric Roberts responsible for a number of them but he is not alone and the supporting cast in general is not brilliant) but some great moments for McGann when he finally rolls up onto the screen. The TARDIS interior is a beautiful steampunk affair and there is a wonderful disregard for canon. I have it on the Revisitations box set and the extras are fascinating. All told, if its cheap and you haven't seen it, why not have a dabble Smiley

I'd agree there's certainly enough in it to be worth watching, and I do enjoy McGann's Doctor.  It's a pity he didn't have a better story to shine in, though.

I love Mcganns Doctor, but mainly due to his extensive audio work. He was great in the movie but unfortunately he was let down by a bad script and an awful supporting cast. Still worth getting though

I'd also agree it's worth a look. I caught it when it was on TV a while back.
