Watched this episode for the first time since its original broadcast yesterday. It's rubbish! I know Love and Monsters isn't great, but this one was way worse. I actually laughed out loud at Huw Edwards saying "Not you as well, Bob", and as for the Doctor lighting the olympic torch... jesus christ. What an awful episode, and what a shame as it has possibly my favourite episode title of the new series.

Yep. I feel the same. Real bad.

IIRC, they had someone or something else lined up for that episode, and it fell through and they put this together at the last minute.

It showed.

I prefer this to L&M I have to be honest. I have an intense dislike for Peter Kay and for me his presence in the episode ruins it. Dont get me wrong, I think this is also pretty rubbish, but I would rather sit and watch it than L&M

I hate this and Love and Monsters. Series 2 is by far the weakest. So many rubbish episodes

The thing I find with series 2 is that there are so few episodes that are awesome. It is like a series of filler episodes. TGITF is probably the only one I can watch and fully enjoy. All the others have lots of elements that I really dont like which are big enough to make me feel like I dislike episodes overall.

TGITF and The Satan Pit 2 parter are probably the only ones I would seek out to watch from the entire series if I was just after a random story to watch

I've heard complaints about Rose and Mickey being bad in Fireplace, I don't mind them in that episode though.

But yeah, people who complain about season 5, need to rewatch season 2 lol.

That alien may have loved Chloe Webber, but it didn't give 2 shits about the audience Tongue

Haha, the less said about that monster the better Tongue

As for TGITF, Mickey is the one thing that I really dislike about the episode. But then I dislike him in pretty much every episode so cant really hold it against this episode in particular

Yeah, it's pretty awful. I'd say it's slightly better than Love And Monsters (largely because there is practically nothing in this world that cannot be improved by the absence of Peter Kay)  but that's very faint praise. Don't think anything on the show has ever made me cringe quite as hard as the whole Olympics sequence at the end.

I didn't mind this one - it's not great, but OK.  I didn't like Love & Monsters.  The monster was designed by a kid in a Blue Peter contest, and frankly looked like it - perfectly good for a kid, but not really Doctor Who standard.

I actually surprised myself and gave this one a 3. I used to detest it, but on rewatch recently my main gripe wasn't so much with the story, but the acting of the little girl. I think different casting there could have made all the difference to the overall episode. It's not the strongest plot, but given more time to develop it could have been good and it could have been quite scary.

I gave this a 2. The pre-titles stuff seemed like it was going to set up a brilliant story, but then it went downhill from there. As Aneurin says, it could have been a lot better if they had a different actress playing Chloe

Like I've said before I know lots of people really do not like this episode but I actually love it. It was kind of topical to the time. 2006, a year after the Olympics in London was announced and I was about 12/13 at the time it came out. So it was something that really appealed/related to me at the time. Drawing, something kids that age(my age at the time) loved doing. So I really like that episode. Smiley Gave it a 5. Smiley
