Just been watching some S5 bits on You Tube with the children I teach, as they are Chinese I have to explain some bits of the English language to them at times and one of them asked something that has made me think.  He wanted to know if 'Silence will fall' meant silence will start, or it meant the silence will end??  That thought had never crossed my mind before, and though it's unlikely it is a play on words that I could see Moff usingan what do you think?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I'm hoping some spoilers will be revealed so it can be discussed in more detail in the future.  We already know that Moff calls the silence a 'them' rather than one being or a thing, but nothing else is coming to mind atm.

I know he referred to it as 'they' but I still always think that Silence Will Fall means silence will fall. Like darkness falls if that makes sense. Like in a Buffy-Hush type scenario.

If we see Silence as a being, or group or whatever, then to me Silence Will Fall sounds like the downfall of said silence (as a group or being). Though, if silence is the name of a 'they' it isnt grammatically correct and should be 'The' Silence Will Fall, which leads me back to the original point of silence falling (over the land for example).

This of course all makes perfect sense in my head but reading it back doesnt seem so clear.

Add to that the people who think its actually 'Silent's will fall' and that opens another can of worms entirely

This whole thing is a bit of a stickler for me. I thought also that it meant silence will fall as in people will be silenced, but by moff calling it they it implies 'The Silence' are some sort of entity.

The other thing that perplexes me is that the Silence apparantly goes right back to the beginning. But which beginning? Are we talking the beginning of Eleven? Because that leads me to the TARDIS. Are we thinking Moffs first story? Because that makes me think it could have something to do with Jack, or the Chula, or the Time Agency (of which River could be a member). Or does he mean 1963 and the very beginning of the show itself because the third ever story was about all the TARDIS team being taken over by something (claimed to be the TARDIS) and acting all maniacle. It was never seen or heard though and could tie in with 'Silence'. It would also link in with the whole TARDIS is evil theme that a lot of people are going with.

I still want the silence to be something to do with Omega - I think it makes sense - and it is the start....

Wasnt the Omega thing just born out of fan speculation? I wouldnt mind seeing him return but there is nothing to suggest he will. It would make sense if 'going back to the beginning' meant the beginning of time lord history, but its a bit of a long shot

I think the Omega thing started in the fandom a year or so ago when some concept art was done but then not used?

I dont think it will be Omega. I dont think it will be anyone that we know. I think Moffat is going to create something brand new in 'The Silence'. At a push I would say perhaps 'the silence' is being puppeteered by someone or something that we already know, but I think the entity itself will be something new

I've wanted Omega back since I saw The Three Doctors back in 2006 =)

I agree, Donna back would not equal silence....  Cheesy I like silence Smiley

Omega was awesome though.
Despite poor William Hartnell's failing health, The Three Doctors was class.

I agree with TDD though, it wouldn't make much sense to bring Omega back, but then again, Rassilon was a nice surprise... Wink

Rassilon was not. Rassilon deserved a better Ep.

Nanogenes working with Vashta Nerada?

Nanogenes and Vashta Nerada? Thats a joke right? It makes less sense than Omega returning.

Rassilon was a nice surprise (for the little time it was a surprise) but I didnt like whatshisname playing the role
