The series was brilliant and the first movie was great, but the last one was a pile of crap. Despite that, David Duchovny has revealed a third is being written.

It is being written. One awaits just the green light from Fox, a little disappointed from the relatively poor reception of the second film. The error comes, in my opinion, that the authors strayed too far from the roots of the series. Moreover, the film was released in the summer. The third will be much closer to what the public expects, with government conspiracies, etc.

If it goes back to its roots as he says then I think it should be great. Any other X-Files fans around?

I'd be very surprised if a third one got off the ground. The second one was awful and it bombed. A new one would have to be amazing because another duff story could really rock the franchise

I'm a huge X- Files fan but am less than interested in yet another film. I'm of the opinion that the concept has been done to death by the lovely duo. The idea of more government conspiracies is yawn making. Roll Eyes

Not one I'll be rushing to see unless they bring in some super dooper new aliens or Mulder/Scully's son turns out to look like Johnny Depp Grin

If it is more faithful to the original series then I am all for it. It cant be as bad as the last one (which was good for what it was, but wasnt X Files)

The films were both bad - but the second one was just utterly, utterly crap in every way shape & form.
It basically pissed all over the entire series.
Sad but true.
Duchovny deserves better - he's pretty talented & was really funny in Evolution.
At least Skinner is now getting regular work in Supernatural.
