TWO men dressed as Doctor Who suffered a “savage beating” in Spalding town centre.

Police are stepping up their search for two people who carried out a serious assault outside the old Bull and Monkie pub in Churchgate on the night of the Spalding Pumpkin Parade.

The attackers were part of a large group and carried out the assault at about 9.40pm on Friday, October 8, leaving one of their victims with a broken jaw.

The incident happened after the offenders had tried to pinch the Doctor Who hat from one of the victims.

The injured pair, aged 19 and 28, are both from the town. They did not wish to speak about their ordeal.

Police are keen to track anyone who saw the attack take place, either as part of the large group who gathered in the area or as a passer-by, in a bid to bring the offenders to justice.

PC Steve Kirtley said: “This was most definitely an unprovoked attack. One of the offenders tried to take the rather fetching Doctor Who hat off one of the males. When he resisted it was taken in anger and then when challenged both received quite a savage beating.

“I want to hear from any persons who are willing to come forward and help.”

Is it just me or does the policeman sound a bit mocking when he says about the 'rather fetching hat'?

I hate stories like this. Drunk people do my head in! Why the need to start fights and wind people up when they are doing nothing more than walking past you. Really stupid!

I bet it was a Fez!

Some people are such morons. I see people coming in to work all the time because they have been attacked by drunken yobs. It seems some people can't just have a drink and a good time

Unfortunately you don't have to be a doctor who fan to receive such treatment. All this highlights is how everyone/anyone is at the mercy of people out of control.

It wouldn't surprise me to find out the attackers were Who fans themselves.

Sounds like another case of Bullies Gone Wild.  I hope they catch those idiots.  Was any of it caught on security cameras?
