I had a feeling he'd been in DW, but I couldn't remember the story.  I still think of him primarily as Tiberius in I, Claudius - a brilliant performance (like everyone else in that).

I saw that George Baker had died - really sad (although he had a good innings) he was a mainstay of British TV for many years (my old Mam loved him as Inspector Wexford)

Peter Halliday's death was announced today.  Born in 1924, he played Packer in The Invasion, voices in The Silurians and The Ambassadors of Death, Pletrac in Carnival of Monsters, a soldier in City of Death (the one in the Renaissance scene), and the blind Vicar in Remembrance of the Daleks.  He was also one of the leads in another classic SF serial, A For Andromeda in 1961, which also featured a very young Julie Christie.

I was just reading about that. I didn't realise he had such a long association with the show

Dennis Chinnery has died aged 85.

Dennis made three appearances in Doctor Who. His first appearance was in 1966 as Albert C Richardson, the  first mate of the Mary Celeste in The Chase. Ten years later he made his second appearance, this time as Kaled scientist Gharman in 1975's Genesis of the Daleks. He returned to the series for his third appearance in 1984's The Twin Dilemma as Professor Sylvest, the father of the twins.

That's sad to hear.  Gharman's the character I'm most familiar with out of those, but he's someone else who had a long relashionship with the show.

Oh, I'm really sorry about that.  A very fine actor, both in and out of Doctor Who.

In Doctor Who he was amazing as the War Chief, and Solon. However, as Nyki says, he was wonderful in a thousand other roles away from the show. I had the pleasure of meeting this immensely gifted and dignified actor many years ago. He had this wonderful magnetic charm about him and an intimacy that could keep an audience spellbound.

The Whoniverse has lost another star tonight. RIP Philip Madoc

I've put a note in the news section about this as well. But today is the 10th Anniversary of the death of classic show producer John Nathan-Turner

This has just been announced by the Doctor Who Twitter feed:

"It’s with great sadness that we confirm the death of Caroline John who played companion Liz Shaw in 1970. She passed away on the 5th June."

That's a shock.  One of the most under-rated Doctor Who companions (though not under-rated around here)
