RTD has stated he was named John because he was meant to be the opposite of Jack. The Hart part probably just sounded good

I read that somewhere. I'd say it was probably a coincidence

You're probably right, but I wouldn't bet against RTD picking out an obscure piece of DW background.

Moving along with season 2, though SLOWLY.

Watched To The Last Man last night and I really enjoyed it.  A great Sci-fi story with some timey-wimey-ness and a good emotional core as well.  Looking forward to the rest of the season!

Oh I love Torchwood - What did you think of "Captain Jack Harkness"? it's totally my favourite ep

I've only recently bought S2 though, so it will be interesting to rewatch after so long Cheesy

I remember loving S1 more on rewatch after S2... I think once you know the characters your opinion kind of changes Smiley

FINALLY managed to finish season 2 last night.  What a ride that was.  As mentioned in an earlier post, right out of the gate season 2 was better than season 1 but it definitely got better as it went along.  I would say that from Gwen's wedding on was just amazing.

From out of the Rain was great because although they gave it their all, they weren't able to save everyone.  I like that because that is how life is: sometimes we can't save everybody and the show wasn't afraid to go there.  Adrift was so touching, haunting, sad and I loved it.  Such an amazing episode.  And Fragments was a lot of fun because we got to find out where everyone came from.  It was nice to see how they all used to live and I was particularly surprised by Owen and Tosh's back stories.  They were not what I expected them to be but particularly in Owen's case it made a lot of sense as to why he carried on the way he did.

Then the finale: Exit Wounds.  I honestly don't know if I can type about it without starting to cry again.  What an amazing, emotional episode!  I love how John started out playing the villain but once it was revealed what his part was in the devastation that his demeanor changed.  Great acting by Mr. Marsters.  And to think that it was all Grey behind it make it that much more devastating for Jack.  The pain and sorrow that Barrowman was able to convey just made me so so sad.  But as he says at the end, 'we will carry on'.

Really, really good moving stuff.  And now I will carry on to COE, and I will be sure to have tissues with me this time.

Lol if you cried for s2, you're going to make a fifth ocean for season 3.

I maintain what I have said before:

Torchwood: Children of Earth is the best thing Russell T. Davies has written.

...and then some. I find CoE the most difficult piece of Sci Fi to watch (and I'm a heartless, soulless monster)

I think I'm going to have to rewatch CofE because I'm normally a massive cryer - I wept buckets at the last ep of series 2 - anything will set me off. But I had nothing on CofE - not that I didn't like I it because I really did, but I found myself more angry than sad. Maybe it was just my mood the day I watched it  Undecided

So I have managed to watch days 1-3 of Children of Earth and may I just say: WOW.

From about the first minute of watching day 1 I knew that this was a different Torchwood.  The writing and production seemed to be above and beyond what had been done in past seasons.  And the story itself is AMAZING.  I was, and continue to be, blown away.

Now, many of you have told me that COE is where everything changes and that it's the show at its best, and although I believed all of you I didn't think that it would be THAT much of a difference.  It takes my breath away.

There is action, adventure, intrigue, emotion, humor - it has everything.  And as a parent, I am truly freaked out by what is happening with the children.  I cannot wait to see days 4 & 5 but at the same time I want to hold off as long as possible because I don't want it to end.

Brilliant, isn't it!

I love all of TW, but that series blew me away. You are lucky you can watch it in one go. When it first aired I was literally clawing the walls for the next episode each night.

There are lots of things that worry me about the upcoming series, but if it turns out half as good as COE I will get over them all, I'm sure!

COE is brilliant. I'm getting excited just for you watching it for the first time. I remember how brilliant it was the first time I watched and would love to go through that again, except for, as Aneurin said, waiting between episode. That was agony

I can't remember if its episode 4 or 5, but the cabinet meeting where they are making the decisions about the kids is the worst. Its utterly amazing but so ruthless and cut throat. Its quite scary because it all seems so realistic and you can totally imagine the thought process and how it would actually play out

I have watched Days 1-4.  Hopefully will get to watch 5 soon.  So far it is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say though, the whole Ianto thing...I knew what was going to happen because it's really had to avoid that kind of information, but I didn't know HOW it would happen.  When I saw it I thought 'really?  That's it?  that's what happens'?  I was underwhelmed.  But maybe that is because I had been waiting for it...

So last night I finally watched Day 5.  There were parts of it that were so unsettling that it was difficult to watch.  I think part of why it hit home for me is because I came to the realization that governments could actually do what they showed in this series.  We all trust them, but at any time they could be totally lying to us.  I also am now seriously considering home schooling my daughter Smiley

Such a powerful episode.  My heart went out to Frobisher and his family.  He was never truly a bad guy, and he just lost all hope.  What a tragedy.  And Jack's grandson!  The acting that John Barrowman did during that whole sequence was amazing.  You could see in his face how tore up he was over the decision he had to make.  How incredibly awful.  And his poor daughter having to stand there and watch it happen to her son.  So powerful and sad and scary and moving all at the same time.

An amazingly well done series.  They certainly have a lot to live up to for Miracle Day.  I am not sure how they can top it.

Special thanks to Iceman for watching with me and not giving anything away even though I kept asking questions Smiley
