Just putting one in here so people can chat should they want to about the show.

To start, the show is averaging about 0.2m per episode on Channel 5 so far. Its also looking to be renewed for a second series in Oz after it proved quite popular in its slot.

Is that a good figure for channel 5? Dont they usually struggle to get most shows to the one million mark?

Apparantly because it is doing so well on Five, they are showing the second half of the series starting next week instead of waiting until April as was previously planned. Perhaps a new generation of kids are taking the CGI K9 to their hearts after all? Smiley Tongue

Not wanting to rain on its parade, but an early morning kids slot while the kids are off school will obviously be good for it. Once they are back next week though the figure will no doubt drop and it will be seen as less successful

I've only seen the first 3 but it certainly isn't as bad as everyone seems to want to make out. True the K9 redesign was totally unnecessary but the stories/characters are fun/pleasant enough.

Let's face it.... its target audience isn't for the likes of us. They're not trying to appeal to diehard/seasoned fans. As kid shows go it certainly fills a niche and has a lot more panache than some I've had to sit through.

I bet it's the talk of playgrounds everywhere Grin

I'm about halfway through - it's one of those series where I get annoyed about all the things wrong with it, but somehow I want to carry on watching (Merlin does that to me too).  I think one of the basic faults (besides the redesign and the acting standard) is that they don't give themselves time to resolve the stories properly in the time available, so there tends to be an unconvincing denouement, followed by a silly joke, and that's it.

They also don't seem to have heard of the concept of foreshadowing.  The episode I watched today (the one with the snake) had lots of important stuff about Starkey suddenly thrown at us at the exact point it becomes relevant.  It would have been very easy to slip in a few references in earlier episodes, which would have made it all seem far too forced.

I've only seen a tiny bit of K9 in Doctor Who but I suppose if he played a larger part in the classic series then I can kind of understand why people don't like the change but as Mandy said above, it's doubtful that the average Who fan is part of the audience that this show is aiming to attract

I'm not sure I understand why people are getting so up in arms about this. Yes it has its flaws but come on - its a damn sight better than some of the rubbish they're putting out for kids.  Huh?

Probably, though the only other shows I watch that are actually defined as for kids (as opposed to "family") are SJA and Shaun the Sheep, so perhaps I have rather high expectations Cool  I suspect the reaction is because it's specifically DW-related, and it feels like a betrayal.  Actually, I've watched all the episodes they broadcast (they left out about six, I think) and I'd give it an OK-if-you-don't-expect-too-much.  They do make some stupid mistakes, though, ranging from not knowing the difference between MI5 and MI6 to thinking 48 degrees north is in the "far north" of Canada.

Shaun the Sheep?  Tongue Wink

Oh I agree...it's not perfect and I can understand fans getting irritated... but to wish the show to fail when it is in its own way promoting the franchise seems a little...how can I put it nicely?

Ermmm....sorry... I can't - churlish Tongue

That really would be brilliant. And sort of shocking considering he turned down Doctor Who several times since it came back
