It doesn't matter when it comes on - either way it involves waiting Tongue

It would be nice to have it on that much earlier, but I would prefer the later start so that the gap isnt so long. I have a feeling its going to be a **** having to wait in between. Especially with a cliffhanger

I agree with you to an extent that the gap should be shorter, but I don't think we should worry too much about the cliffhanger. I think its been majorly overhyped. It will no doubt be good, but other series have ended on cliffhangers that you have had to wait a whole year to be resolved with a lot less fuss. A lot of fans seem to be acting as though DW is the first show to ever do it. I suppose it will come down to what the actual cliffhanger is, but it will be no bigger than say Buffy dying in series 5, or Mulder being abducted in the X Files, or the revelation of the final Cylon in BSG. All brilliant cliffhangers but done way more subtly than DW. Anyway, this is probably for another thread

I've just been rewatching Twin Peaks (brilliant) and the final episode of all finished on a cliffhanger  Embarrassed

Nyki, I think you might need to edit your post. I'd do it for you but I don't know where your comment begins Smiley

I've been hearing April 23rd a lot today but not had a chance to check if that confirmed or just a rumour. Anyone know?

I hope that it doesnt open on consecutive nights. Its going to be a short enough run as it is without cutting it down by another week

I'm not sure I like the idea of it being two consecutive nights either Sad

I wonder when the Beeb plan on confirming this up? Comic Relief night perhaps? Undecided

Well we never got that new trailer a few weeks back as rumoured, so CR would be as good a time as any to reveal it I guess.

If the News Of The World is right ( and I realise the irony of that statement Tongue ) we could be getting a sketch for CR - are they likely to show a trailer as well?

DWM have tweeted this:

Is anyone else getting bored waiting for the new series of Doctor Who? Come on Easter, HURRY UP! (Checks calendar. Still 7 weeks away. Gah!)

Rounding up to the nearest Saturday, that would mean a launch of 23rd April. If you had your money on that date you might just be cashing in Smiley

This is based on no solid fact/rumour but the BBC does tend to like to 'double up' with episodes when it wants to make a big splash (Strictly Come Dancing) so it might be possible that they are going to use the Bank Holiday weekend to showcase the start of Doctor Who. I agree with the general feelings on this thread; April 23 is too long to wait and I hope they don't double up - this season is going to be too short as it is!

I agree. Double banking would be a bad idea considering the length, but I suppose for the BBC a six week series would make more sense than a 7, considering a lot of shows on the channel only run for that length anyway

There is some whispers that BBCA will be airing the opener as a feature length, and if that happens they could be seeing episode 2 up to a week before Britain (assuming we don't air it on consecutive nights). Was just wondering how people, on both sides, felt about this?

Honestly ... I don't like it. It's a British show - we should get it first. I can't imagine a situation where we'd see a major American show before it aired there.

Wouldn't that put them ahead of us all the way through the series then as well? If we don't get it consecutively that is Undecided

Hmmmm, things appear to be nudging us towards a big double-headed, consecutive night opener for the UK. BBC shows (generally) have to appear first on the BBC as part of the licence charter (JNT aired The Five Doctors 2 days before its CiN debut in 1983 and was very nearly sacked because of it). The argument runs that the show was paid for by BBC licence fee payers so they should have first dibs on it.

So, if BBCA are airing it as a feature length then, unless there has been some unusual contractual shenanigans (which might well have leaked out), us in the UK are getting consecutive episodes!
