Somebody updated Marilyn Monroe's wiki page yesterday to say this: In the late 1950s, rumors circulated briefly that Monroe had eloped with an unnamed stranger in a bow tie she met during a party at Frank Sinatra's Hollywood estate. The marriage was never confirmed, however, due in part to the fact that it may not have taken place inside a real chapel.I love this!!

One question though, and maybe this isn't the right place for it and maybe it's a dumb question: How come Gambon's character as an old man was able to touch/hug his younger self? That caused all sorts of trouble for Rose in Father's Day so just wondering why it wasn't an issue now. It didn't bother me that it wasn't an issue, I was just curious.
In that moment the character was being rewritten, just after he turned around and saw himself as a boy he changed. So much so that the machine no longer recognised him and they had to get Abigail to sing instead. Well, that's how I saw it...I guess there's plenty of other theories out there, lol. Fantastic episode, loved it from start to finish. The new set designer (can't remember his name, sorry) blew me away, golly glad he's on board for S6 Murray Gold's carol, foretelling us of silence being all around, being alone and shadows, was hauntingly beautiful, and his reworking of the I Am the Doctor refrains were spot on. That's a good point. I'd been mildly (very mildly) put out that they'd ignored the Blinovitch Limitation Effect, but maybe the Doctor's rewriting means it works the same as when he meets himself. Anyway, that was a very minor blip in an excellent story. Beautiful slant on handling A Christmas Carol. I loved it.

They seem to ignore the BLE quite a lot though, which wouldnt be so bad if they hadnt made such a stir about it in Father's Day. The same thing happened with Amy and Amelia in The Big Bang. I suppose there are always ways of talking around it, and like Nyki said, it could be that its now changed because of history changing/being rewritten, but I think Moff probably isnt too concerned with it as long as the story gets told

As you know, Christmas Specials occupy a special place in my heart (and a merciless response to those who seek to interrupt the first viewing). I had a power cut..... A POWER CUT!!!!! I had planned for such an event though and my investment of a Panasonic Blu Ray Recorder positioned at my parents house ensured that I was able to enjoy the Christmas Special in all its glory... And what a glorious treat it was. A simple story, beautifully told which brought a lump to the throat of even the hardest heart (i.e. mine). The sets were dazzling, the supporting cast, sublime and as for Murray Gold's music.... perfection. However, I feel duty bound to focus principally on Matt Smith's performance which was simply mesmeric and everything I was hoping for from him as the Doctor. To act on the same screen as the legendary Michael Gambon and hold his own, says everything about the way he is developing. We are watching something quite magical happen - we are witnessing the emergence of a truly great actor. My gripes are small ones; the slight contrivance of the singing (thats my hard heart coming back) and i wasn't entirely clear on the role of the shark and the fish (again, I am sure i wasn't listening properly). Interestingly, Steven Moffat writing on Twitter yesterday was asked about the Blinovich Limitation Effect and said that he had similar concerns when watching The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors, The Two Doctors and Time Crash... I believe the appropriate expression is 'LOL' And as for that season 6 trailer..... As I said above, we are on the brink of something really really special.

We had ourselves a bit of a disaster on here too. As soon as the episode finished the forum went down for about 3 hours so nobody could get on here to actually talk about it. It was a nightmare. At least you got to see it in the end though. Can't imagine the drama in your house if you had had to wait a few more days

At least you got to see it in the end though. Can't imagine the drama in your house if you had had to wait a few more days The power went off at 4pm. Everyone started to get the candles out and talk about an 'old fashioned christmas' and played board games. I, on the other hand, swore profanely at anyone who came within 1 metre of my chair and was nearly guilty of a malicious and threatening phone call to the electricity company (I am sure they wished me a Happy Christmas to rub salt into the wounds). So I disconnected my new blu ray recorder and drove over to my mam and dad's house. I barged in, turned off their TV and for the next 30 minutes proceeded to set up the blu ray recorder and completely disrupting their Xmas tea party. I was still swearing quite a lot. I set the recorder going and then drove back home to see if the power was restored (my Dad hates Dr Who with a passion so there was no question of him letting me watch it). More board games and swearing later, the power came back on at 8pm. I drove to my mams and picked up the recorder and disc. By 9:15pm on Xmas day I was watching A Christmas Carol in glorious HD. I was not popular. But I was victorious. A bit like Napoleon.

Haha. Well if nothing else, at least you gave everyone a teaser of what might happen if you are interupted next Christmas. A lesson learned by all

In case anyone is interested, I put a poll on the news page earlier to find out peoples reactions to this story and its far more spread out than our forum poll.
5/5 Absolutely amazing - 23 (41%) 4/5 Near perfect - 21 (38%) 3/5 Not bad, not great - 7 (12%) 2/5 Not impressed - 1 (1%) 1/5 Shockingly bad - 3 (5%)

To be honest, nobody has said anything negative about it to me via twitter so at least the people who hated it arent being so vocal. To me at least. And I usually get all the vocal ones

Am I the only one who found it meh? I couldn't understand a single thing that was going on for most of the episode, just found it horribly incoherent. My dad watched with me and couldn't stand it either.
Sorry, haters to the left....

I believe the appropriate expression is 'LOL' I think Time Lords always have a bit more wiggle room than others, although there were vague comments in The Three Doctors about it being dangerous having them together.

I'd consider the wording in the poll... Whilst I do think the episode was great, I wouldn't say it was anything close to near perfect, so I voted 3/5 (in this thread)

While I enjoyed the episode overall - Matt Smith was brillant - one incident spoilt it enough for me to have to vote it down to a near perfect. The scene where Gambon went to strike the boy was unnecessary - it could just as easily been implied without the visual follow through. Loved the fish/shark

Ah didn't see this one... I have to admit that this far after the airing of the episode I would have watched the episode at least 3 times by now, but this wasn't the case! Okay I've watched it twice, only watched it the second time as mum wouldn't let me watch it in my room first time on Christmas day so had to ATTEMPT to watch it downstairs with my little cousins talking and asking me loads of questions like "where has Rose gone?" very annoying! All in all i found the episode boring... maybe because I'm a huge Amy fan and to be honest there wasn't enough of Amy and Rory in the episode in my opinion! However had to admire Matt Smith's acting and the little boy But yeah I wouldn't say the episode was perfect like BlueRose I found it meh and got kinda lost in the middle! But have to say... Cannot wait for S6! It looks amazing!!!
