A Christmas Carol had a lot to live up to when stood against all the specials that have come before, but how does it rate on your list of favourites? So far in the rate the episode thread, 90% of voters have given it top marks, but is it your new favourite? Vote above and scribble below

I have to go with A Christmas Carol - partly because it was the first special (and come to think of it episode - it's becoming so easy to forget I only started watching this year!) that I have watched as it was broadcast so it's always going to have a special place in my heart. Oh and because it was FANTASTIC

A Christmas Carol because it's the first Special that has moved me like this. Christmas Invasion is a very close second, then Next Doctor and Voyage. Don't really like the other two

One day I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.

I really dont like Ten throughout and the Sycorax are a bit rubbish. With that in mind though, until this week my favourite was VOTD and everyone hates that one

The first episode I watched when it was new was VOTD and starting with series 4 in 2008 I saw each new episode on Saturdays; before that I only saw the Doctor Who episodes on DVD or on PBS repeats. It is very exciting to watch the episodes soon after they're aired, especially during Christmastime. I voted for A Christmas Carol in this poll, because it had a very Christmas theme and is based on the Charles Dickens story that a lot of people associate with the holidays.

I went for a Christmas Carol because it was brilliant but it lacked a lot of Rory if you ask me

Christmas Carol by a long shot. Runaway Bride is a distant second because I like Donna so much. The rest were meh to disappointing.

I have to agree on Christmas Carol - I keep thinking of TEoT pt2 as part of the Xmas Specials, but obviously it's not. (a year today, sob ) I'd prob go TCC, TCI, VotD, TRB, TEoT1 then way, way, waaaay down the list, The Next Doctor. I personally thought it to be one of the worst sins committed by the show in it's entire history.

I absolutely hated The Next Doctor, but I rewatched it in the run up to Christmas and it wasnt as bad as I remembered. Perhaps its one that will grow with age

I caught some of it too - specifically the bit with David Morrisey on the lamp post & his ridiculous speech to get folk to applaud The Doctor. It pains me, cos some of the stuff was really well put together - the cemetery scene for example.

I liked most of them, but A Christmas Carol is by far my favourite. The only one I'd actively avoid watching again would be The End Of Time part 1, mainly because it would just remind me of part 2 which was probably the most abysmal episode I've ever seen.

I can't believe TEOT hasnt got a single vote. I know it wasnt particularly good but I thought all the Tennant fans would have chosen that because of it being his penultimate episode

Probably because even the Tennant brigade can't argue just how bad it is

I went with The Christmas Invasion and not because of its Christmasiness (which was considerable) but because it blew DT onto our screens with an electric performance. I accept that he is only on screen properly for about 20 minutes. But what a 20 minutes. He puts in arguably the most memorable debut performance since Tom Baker in Robot (if we neglect the Twin Dilemma - that was memorable but not necessarily in a good way). How do you replace an actor the stature of Chris Ecclestone? The last 20 minutes of TCI shows you how.
I will say, I have a startling lack of criticality when it comes to Xmas specials. I love the idea of a Christmas Doctor Who and they all generally hit the spot.

Yes, after Robot the classic series debuts got steadily weaker.
