Doctor Who star Matt Smith will go head-to-head with his terrestrial rival, Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, at this years National Television Awards.
Both stars, who were thrust into the limelight last year as the 11th incarnation of the Doctor and the quirky detective Sherlock Holmes, have been nominated for best Drama Performance.
The shortlist and eventual winners of the National Television Awards are voted for by viewers.
The ceremony, hosted by O'Leary from the O2 Arena, will be broadcast live on ITV1 on Wednesday January 26.SOURCE

Inevitable I suppose - both have taken on an iconic role and made it their own. And both in their own way are VERY popular with the viewers. No doubt it will be a close call but I'd like to think Matt has the edge

Sarah Jane Smith: No.The universe has to move forward. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Whether it's a world, or a relationship. Everything has its time. And everything ends.

I liked Cumberbatch in Sherlock, but I've got to go for Matt. Anyway, everyone knows Conan Doyle just copied Holmes from the Doctor's solving of the Weng Chiang case

Its pretty much the Drama catagory and then everything else is related to reality stuff. I just voted for the two DW ones too.

I don't watch most of the nominees. Besides the obvious, I only voted for QI and Who Do You Think You Are

I pretty much skipped everything - in fact I believe I voted the same way as Nyki. Most of the categories had me doing this --->

One day I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.

I voted for Matt & DW so have my fingers firmly crossed. That said though I'm a huge fan of Sherlock too so if that & Benedict take the awards I won't be upset. If it's anything else mind ... On a related point has anyone noticed how the media seem to be ignoring all the other nominees in these 2 categories & are pitching it as essentially Smith v Cumberbatch, Who v Sherlock?

Yea I think they are just trying to make a deal out of the fact Moffat is in charge of both and that Matt and the other one probably hate each other or some such rubbish.
As an aside, they have filmed some DW stuff for the event with a scene in Albert Square, and another of Matt and Dermot O'Leary in the TARDIS apparantly

The TARDIS was on the Eastenders set last week too, it's assumed that's for this as well
