The Second Doctor and Jamie are on a mission for the Time Lords that goes horribly wrong, and Jamie sees the Doctor being tortured to death. However, if the Doctor died in his second incarnation, what does that mean for the Sixth Doctor and Peri? "What's the use of a good quotation if you can't change it?" Where we see Peri in skimpy outfits, the Doctor turns vegetarian & we bid a fond farewell to Patrick Troughton...

Possibly the best 6th Doctor story, even before you add Troughton and Jamie to the mix.

A wonderful Robert Holmes story This was the first story I had a VHS video for so I taped it off the TV and watched it to death. I never ever get sick of it. Colin Baker is imperious and shows that with a production team who gave a damn and some excellent writing he could have been up there with the very best of them! A great idea and actually some useful canon (Bob Holmes couldn't help building up the Time Lord back story). This was pretty close to my favourite 6th Dr story (Terror of the Vervoids being my all time favourite)

I thought that accolade was reserved for The Twin Dilemma, Chris. What with you being the founder of its fan group

I thought that accolade was reserved for The Twin Dilemma, Chris. What with you being the founder of its fan group The Twin Dilemma is ... unique and occupies a special place in my heart. But difficult to argue with a show that has Troughton, Jacqueline Pearce and lots of chit chat about time travel. And I am very much like Shockeye. I even look like him.

A very good story, but I wish they could have brought the two Doctors together earlier and for longer. My favourite bits of the previous multi-Doctor stories was the banter between them, and the moments when it happens in this story are glorious, but there just aren't enough!
Shame Frazer Hines couldn't have stuck around for a while after this story, he seemed to gel brilliantly with Colin Baker, and it would've been great if they could have written in some way for him to come back as a regular companion for a little while. Wishful thinking, I know, (even if they'd wanted him to he was probably too busy with Emmerdale Farm at the time) but a dame can dream, huh?

An entertaining story. While definitely fun with the silliness about, the plot itself doesn't really get on well, and the second Doctor doesn't get to do much. It was a story that was not greater than the sum of its parts- it just didn't come together cohesively. But gosh was it fun and entertaining to watch.
