Alright. I know more than a few of you have at least thought of trying to construct a Doctor Who related costume, even if you haven't admitted it before. I know I have. Thing is, it's not always easy putting a decent looking one together from bits and pieces, and it's even harder to find it fully assembled.

That being said, have any of you managed to put together a half respectable Doctor Who costume yourselves? I've assembled a pretty awesome Tenth Doctor outfit, complete with brainy specs (just my own glasses, really, but why do you think I chose the frames? Tongue) and sonic screwdriver. I spent almost $200 for the suit itself, in part because I needed a new suit (why I bought a suit in the first place) and in part because I wanted a costume (why I bought that suit Tongue). The coat I got second-hand at a local thrift store, and apart from a small bleach stain on the cuff of one sleeve, it's pretty damned close. I didn't place much importance on the shoes, so I usually end up wearing dress shoes with it - I don't really have a pair of traditional runners; closest I have are still dressier than most people's shoes. And I don't currently have the hair for it anymore, but I did for the longest time. I do have pics of the whole thing assembled, but I'd have to find them first; I'll get them up eventually.

I'm making slow progress on the Eleventh Doctor now. As in, I have the screwdriver and the ability to grow my hair. I haven't been able to find a jacket I've liked enough for it.

Anyone else succeeded in, or at least tried to, assemble a Doctor Who related costume? It doesn't have to be a Doctor, any character will do. Tongue

I dressed up as the Fourth Doctor about 3 years ago for a 'famous partnerships' fancy dress party. My friend came as Leela. We very nearly went as Laurel and Hardy but she wouldnt fatten up for it Tongue

I've seen some great fanmade costumes but I have never dressed up myself. Not sure if I have ever seen any official licenced costumes either so your best bet is probably to just make your own. Would be cool to see some pics if you find them Smiley

Well, you may not be able to get BBC licensed costumes, but you can indeed get clothing items that are specifically designed to be duplicates of those worn by the characters in the show. I know there are replicas of Captain Jack's and the Tenth Doctor's jackets online, but they typically run for at least $200USD. And I know Harris tweed jackets aren't cheap either.

There are a lot of places that you can pick up replicas, but as you say they are usually expensive. DWM used to advertise them but not seen anything in a while. There used to be lots on Ebay too.

I dreamed about these costumes last night. How wierd is that! In my dream, I went to a school reunion and all my friends were there dressed like their jobs, astronauts, soldiers, pilots etc, and I was there dressed as the Fifth Doctor. I wasn't the Doctor though as my job, I was just a geek. Anyways, I had to get up on stage to do a speech but when I stood in front of everyone I was wearing the Leela outfit instead and everyone was laughing Huh?

I've sort of done Amy before, I had heels, shorts, tights, tight top and sleeky shiny see-through shirt and a real flat police hat... A friend says next time, he can lend me a vest so it will look cool - I've got blonde hair but, noone was complaining Wink

My friend went as 11th Doc..

I can find the pic I put on twitter if you want?

We want to try and make a TARDIS costume for next time... He wanted to go as Colin but I refused to go as Peri and Mel... Unsurprisingly looking at their costumes...

He is going to get the 4th outfit when it is released, I'd love the 5th Doc mind... Defo getting the 5th Doc T-shirt though, that is amazing!!!

If the Leela one was cheaper, I'd be tempted... Wink

I would say it means you think of yourself as the 5th doctor but that everyone else sees you as Leela  Cheesy
Well it's that or too much cheese last thing at night Tongue Wink

People wanting to dress like 11 will be able to do so from October 2011 in this officially licensed replica blazer:

Don't get too excited though as it will set you back a whopping £323.99 from Forbidden Planet (RRP £359.99)

If you are interested check it out at FORBIDDEN PLANET

Yep, would be exactly the same just not 'officially licensed' merchandise.

Exactly. The thing is, they know people will go and pay those amounts and they will be raking it in.
