2  Travels In Time And Space / The Crusade / Re: New Companion on: March 03, 2016, 10:35:00 am
Lots and lots and lots of rumours doing the rounds at the moment that the new companion will be Rakhee Thakrar who appeared until recently as Shabnam in Eastenders. It seems to be spreading out of nothing but it's definitely gained some weight over the last week, especially as she seems to be following lots of DW related Twitter accounts (or maybe she's just good at pulling peoples legs for lols).

Personally I think she would be great in the role. I enjoyed her on EE and I think she could prove very popular if given a good character to work with. It'll also be nice to mix it up a bit in terms of ethnicity. It's been 8 years or more now since we had a full time companion who wasn't white and while I think that an actor should be chosen based on merit rather than race or religion, it would be good to see some diversity in the show.

Clara is gone, and someone new will be coming on board soon. Who and what would you like to see from the new person in the role?

That link doesn't work anymore so I googled it to find another one. I've wasted half my morning on it! It's so ridiculously addictive!

The Name Of The Doctor

Because in a timey-wimey way it's how this story came to be
10  The Leisure Hive / Satellite Five / Re: The Walking Dead on: February 25, 2016, 12:35:14 pm
I didn't get past the first episode of the spinoff, and I wasn't really paying much mind to that. I need to sit and do it properly.

I still very much love the main show but it's lacking something at the moment. Even with more recent episodes seeming to up the violence and horror, it seems to have lost it's element of threat. They need to bring that back a bit I think.
11  The Leisure Hive / Satellite Five / Re: Batman (The 1960's Show) on: February 25, 2016, 12:33:12 pm
I'd much rather sit and watch this than the Dark Knight trilogy. I used to love repeats of this when I was a kid but I've not been able to take to the latest incarnation.

Are we going to get another couple of stories?  It's getting on for a month now since these two were posted.

Well it's been over 2 years now, which puts a spanner in the works somewhat, but I'd be happy to get them back up and running again if others wanted it also and if there's people here to discuss it. It was a great little area of the forum so it would be nice to revive it.
13  76 Totter's Lane / The Space Museum / Re: William Hartnell: The Lost Stories - THE MYTH MAKERS on: February 25, 2016, 12:24:29 pm
I think the story is intriguing and the script is witty but, aside from a few decent performances, the acting is not too good. The mix between violence and comedy works well but tell me, please: How long could Vicki keep up her Cressida act? 2 years 1 year, 6 months, 2 months?

Fun Fact: The actor who plays Agamemnon, Francis de Wolff, was also the Vasor, the lechorous trapper in The Keys of Marinus.

I think it's acted really well throughout, personally, and it's one of my favourite lost story audios. As for how long she could keep up the act, I don't think it really matters. Doctor Who had a great way back then of tossing a character out and then forgetting they ever existed. I don't think we're meant to think on it too much.
14  Fanatical For Who / Appreciation Threads / Re: Adric... No seriously Adric on: February 25, 2016, 12:21:17 pm
I completely agree 100% with your assessment here. In fact, I prefer Adric to Tegan, who I've always found annoying

Tegan is very hard to like and I go through waves with her. For the most part she is ok but she is horribly written in some stories and I think my view is slightly tainted because I've also come to hear a lot that the actress isn't particularly nice either.

19  Travels In Time And Space / The Invasion Of Time / Re: Last Story/Episode You Watched? Part V on: February 24, 2016, 04:38:28 pm
I've started a Dalekthon, as I haven't done one for a few years. So far The Daleks, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Chase & the reconstruction of The Daleks' Master Plan.

I did this a little while before Christmas but I stopped after the classic series. I should finish it, but I know I'll probably have to start from the beginning again.

I've never done a Cyberman one, and I was watching Attack of the Cybermen (which is also the last one I watched overall) this week and thought I should. Maybe I'll do that next.
20  76 Totter's Lane / Silence In The Library / Re: Doctor Who The Complete History on: February 24, 2016, 03:41:19 pm
I picked the first one up in a shop and then they stopped selling it, forcing me to subscribe. It's been an absolute shambles ever since. They charge me twice a month, but only ship once (with both copies, in fairness) and the time it takes between issues seems to be getting longer. I've recieved 8 in 6 months, and for 2 of those months they weren't sending them because they said the standing order had been cancelled. When I contacted my bank they said it hadn't, and the publishers were demanding money for issues they said I'd not paid for. When I sent them proof of purchase I then had to start a brand new subscription because they'd cancelled the first.

This set, at it's current size is going to cost me over £800. For all the subscribers they have you'd think they'd be able to put some sort of proper system in place. And because the call centre is outside of the uk it makes communication even more difficult.

The books themselves though are an amazing insight into the show and they put forward a lot of information that I wasn't aware of, which surprised me as I thought that well was pretty much run dry. They also send the books out of order, so if you're a completist, like me, then you've got no choise to keep going or the spines will look terrible on the shelf.

Definitely worth delving in to, but beware of the hassle you might come up against with the subscription people
