Doctor Who Story Analysis: The Best and Worst

Ok, you all know how I like my stats so I thought it would be pretty cool if we kept a track of all the scores that the forum has awarded each story so that we could keep a definative rank of whats considered the best through to the worst.

So far I have included the the 5 stories from series 6 and last years Christmas special, as we already had those scores available through our polls. I have also included the three stories from TIQ that we have completed and will add each stories score every Sunday when the stories change over until we are through them all.

For the stories that do not have scores yet because we were not open, or not covering them in TIQ, for example series 1 through 5 of the new series, I will create a new poll for each story and leave them open for a week to collect the results, in a similar vein to the TIQ stories, only you don't have to do a rewatch of them

The way I have scored each story is to take the amount of points awarded by the members of the forum for each serial and then divide it by the amount of people who awarded it a score to give an overall average for each, much like you see in star ratings on sites like Amazon. Because there are so many stories and we generally only award a mark out of five, so that we can see a larger range in the scores I have doubled the average of each story, which would have been out of 5, so that the mark is now out of ten. It doesn't affect the overall results as each story will be marked accordingly.

I think this is a brilliant idea. From that data too you can tally up all sorts. Like most highly ranked Doctor based on their stories, or the same for companions, which seasons are most highly rated etc. Not meaning to bump your workload or anything

Of the nine episodes you already have ranked, I would say the only shocker for me is that ACC ranked as highly as it has. It's great don't get me wrong, but I would have expected a slightly lower overall score. I think the rest though is pretty accurate. It will be cool to keep checking back on it

I have updated this with some more results. Series 3 puts 2 entries into the top ten so far, and one other into the top 20, though all three of those are unsecure at the moment. It's also given us our second lowest score so far.

Due to a conversation regarding scoring that I had with T-C this week in The Twin Dillema section, I am going to repoll everything from series 6 now that time has passed since airing, giving people a chance to rewatch and perhaps be more objective with their votes. It will also be fairer given that no other series in our polls has been aired directly before voting occured.

I knew The Eleventh Hour would end up at the top. Still time for it to be toppled, but I don't see it falling out of the top 5

A Christmas Carol was good, but definately shouldnt be above 8, 9 and 10. Victory deserves a much higher place than 57, too
