It's one thing to blow up Skaro and try to kill of the Daleks, but did the Doctor not even spare a thought for the Thals? This is something that has always made me wonder. Are we to assume the Doctor didn't think of them, or just didn't care? Or are we supposed to think they have already left the planet? I can't imagine sharing with the Daleks is much fun. Either way it seems a bit of an oversight to not mention it.

I'd always assumed they would have just left by this point. Though, if he sent it to Skaro relative to Earths present day, then I guess they would have still been there. Hmmm

They weren't there in Destiny of the Daleks.  Either they'd left (Skaro never seems to have become a particularly hospitable planet) or the Daleks wiped them out when they returned.

I might be wrong, and I would have to have another listen, but I am sure that their leaving is a big plot point in one of the audios. In terms of the show canon though, as Nyki said they weren't there through Destiny so it is probably safe to assume they weren't there at this point. That said though, TS raised an interesting point and with Timey Wimey you never really know, but it does make for an easy 'get out' clause if it were ever needing to be addressed, which is unlikely I guess.

I think the Thals were gone by this point. I don't think that's something they would overlook when writing the Doctor wiping out species. I could be wrong though.

As for the time of it, perhaps the explanation is that it went through time as well to whatever was 'present day' for Skaro. But that being said, we don't know how the time works on Skaro and at what points we generally see it in it's own history. It's too timey wimey to try and work it out or even explain properly what I mean, but I don't think its a particular issue to be honest.

The melange of orders and reports being given when the ship was returning to Skaro suggest that they were moving in time, presumably to the far future - it was certainly a long way in the future when Davros was being held prisoner in Ressurection.  My Dalek chronology (which I'll get around to posting sometime) has The Daleks taking place somewhere around the present day - based on the fact that Frontier in Space (and therefore Planet of the Daleks) is 26th century, and the Thals say it had been several centuries since they'd defeated the Daleks.
